A 15-year-old South Side boy was fatally shot Tuesday by his girlfriend when the automatic pistol she was playing with accidentally discharged, police said.

Jesse Gandana of East 91st Street suffered one wound to the head and was pronounced dead at 9:10 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner`s office.

Police would not identify the girl or give her age and said no charges were filed. Pullman Area violent crimes Sgt. John Manos said the girl is a juvenile and Gandana`s girlfriend.

The girl was questioned by Pullman Area detectives at the South Chicago District headquarters. She was released at about 7 p.m., Manos said.

The shooting took place at about 5:35 p.m. at 8600 S. Muskegon Ave., Manos said. There were no witnesses to the shooting, but police believe the .32-caliber weapon accidentally discharged while the two were playing.

The girl thought she had unloaded the gun before playing with it, Manos said. Assuming the gun was unloaded, she wheeled it around, accidentally pulled the trigger, and fired one shot, Manos said.
