The question of censorship has plagued everything from television to books to performers. And it seems that very often censorship has a reverse effect than was originally intended. Elvis was considered immoral and depraved by some in the 1950s. He was censored by showing him from the waist up on television. Look how popular he still is today.

Another more current target is the television show ”Married . . . With Children” shown on the Fox TV network. A little over a year ago Terry Rakolta led a one-woman attack on the show because she found it offensive. Since then the show`s popularity has skyrocketed, and it does not lack for sponsors.

Some censorship is necessary, but most of the time it makes a person or show increase in popularity. Forbidden fruit somehow always tastes better.
