Christmas present: A dream came true 15 years ago for Dino Vlahakis when he became owner of the Pickwick movie theater in Park Ridge. Now a second dream is coming true, as his movie house hosts “A Shiny New Christmas.”

The holiday musical plays Wednesdays through Sundays through Dec. 29 and Dec. 23, 24 and 30 at the Pickwick, 5 S. Prospect Rd.

“We’ve had children’s theater events at the Pickwick during the day for 12 years, but this is our first evening theatrical production,” said Vlahakis, a Park Ridge resident. “We were looking for something family-oriented for a long time, and `A Shiny New Christmas’ fits the bill.”

Because the 68-year-old Pickwick was a vaudeville theater before it became a movie house, it’s already set up for a theatrical production.

Vlahakis hopes “A Shiny New Christmas” has found a permanent home in the 1,400-seat Pickwick.

“We think this musical has a great chance to become a holiday tradition in the northwest suburbs,” Vlahakis said.
