James W. Black, born May 12, 1939, in New Lebanon, New York. He died at home August, 31, 2001 in Hilton Head Island, SC. Mr. Black served in the U.S. Navy for two years. He began his career working for St. Paul’s Insurance Company and later worked for Federated Department Stores. In 1968, he accepted a position with Protection Mutual Insurance Company. After 33 years with the company, he retired with the company. He retired on August 1, 2001. His career highlights are: 1971 promoted to District Manager of Cleveland office; 1975 appointed District Vice President of Cleveland offce; 1980 appointed Vice President and Regional Manager of Protection Mutual North Central region; 1990 elected Vice President and Director of Operations for Protection Mutual and moved to the Park Ridge, IL office; 1995 promoted to Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer; 1996 elected President and Chief Executive Officer; 1998 named Vice Chairman and Chief Operating Officer of FM Global which position he held until his retirement. He is surived by his wife of 34 years, Sandy Conner Black whom he married August 5, 1967; children, Jennifer Black (Eric) Ross of New York, NY and J. Bradley Black of Chicago, IL; a sister, Denise (Howard) Bell of Merritt Island, FL; and grandchildren, Harrison and Donovan Ross. Memorial Services were held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the National Colorectal Cancer Research Alliance, c/o Entertainment Industry Foundation, 311132 Ventura Blvd., Suite 401, Studio City, CA 91604-3156. “I will not forgot you!
