Scout rear bumper question

Recommended Posts

Hello

Sorry if this is actually posted somewhere else but I haven't been able to find it..

The central two parking sensors have come loose and are annoying me because they have 'fallen in' to the bumper. This means that they are intermittently sensing the bumper itself when I select reverse (and it doesn't look very nice).

I have a tow-bar fitted which means that I can reach the central nearside one with my hand when I lie under the car but I can only reach the central offside one by pushing it flush with some sort of stick. Neither of these options results in a permanent fix - they obviously slip back within a couple of days.

I've actually had it in the garage to have this fixed - they said that the bumper needed to come off for them to be bonded back on properly. However, their repair wasn't very good because they are loose again. I could ask them to do it again but I wonder if anyone could advise me how to remove either the bumper or the 'under tray' part of the bumper so that I can stick them back myself?

Thanks

The Scout bumper will use the same fixing locations as the regular Octavia, you might just need to remove the silver trim along the bottom first? Looking at mine there are several Torx screws along the lower edge. I'd start with these.

If the sensors have become detached and refixed using sealant and they have come away again then this suggests to me that the securing lugs on either the sensors or bumper are broken preventing a secure / tight fit.

Let us know how you get on!

Had the same thing with my old PD Scout, first time I had the garage fix them but only lasted a few days.  The middle ones were located just where my knees pressed against the bumper when I reached in the back, so would easily get pushed through.  Found I could relocate them myself even without tow-bar cut out.  Only held with self adhesive pads so after re-fitting them a few times I replaced the pads with outdoor water resistant type which lasted until I sold the car after 5 years, important to clean up where the pads adhere to the bumper to give them a chance of bonding.  Fortunately the ones on the MKIII Scout seem more secure & not had any problems so far.
