These are the cleanest speakers I personally have ever listened to. I happen to be a big fan of Harman Kardon and their PC and car speakers as well. I was very skeptical about buying two speakers from an unknown brand without a subwoofer, but I have to admit that I don't feel I need a subwoofer. The purchase was a very pleasurable surprise because the sound quality is just phenomenal. Rock music (even alternative rock), hip-hop, pop, rap, etc sound excellent with these speakers. You will hear music in a completely different way with these speakers, and the sound audio quality makes a huge difference with these speakers, while it may not make a huge difference with other speakers. I've always had a great subwoofer throughout my life, but this is the first time I can say I'll do without one. After over a year, I decided to go with the Audioengine s8 subwoofer. The subwoofer is not necessary because the speakers are very clean, but some people like the additional bass coming from the A5+ speakers. Now, when comparing the A5+ speakers from the S8 to the A2+ speakers from the S8, I would say that the A2+ definitely wins the show as it performs perfectly. The A5+ has bass built in, so it is duplicated, while the A2+ is cleaner. The A5+ combo does sound great, but the A2+ has the advantage no question and I've also never heard a clearer system.
