Back to School!

It's hard to believe that summer is over and the new school year is about to start! Is your child attending a new school? Do they have a new teacher? The CHS has resources to help you navigate the discussion with school personnel about your child's bleeding disorder. We have some copies of each of these in the office. Email us at info@hemophiliamb.ca if you would like us to send you a copy. You can also download the PDFs:

Hemophilia; What School Personnel Should Know
Von Willebrand Disease: What School Personnel Should Know

There are many more excellent resources available from the CHS in the Educational Catalog.

CHS-MC Family Camp

The Chapter welcomed families at Luther Village this July for Family Camp! Thank you to Rose Jacobson for coming to camp to deliver bleeding disorders education and to help adults and children learn how to administer their medication.

The fun doesn't stop if it isn't "beach weather." Activities in the afternoon included archery, fire making and critter catching off the dock. There were raucous games of Jungle Speed and the annual frog catching! (catch and release)

Sometimes you have to be creative to deliver a presentation. A bed sheet on a piece of foam for a screen is a new one for us! Big thank you to Milena Pirnat and Shelley Kubin for the excellent talk on women and girls with bleeding disorders! Thanks to the campers for sharing their experiences. Together we are STRONG!

Is 2024 the year your family comes to camp? Learn all about Family Camp on the Chapter website.

Thank you to our 2023 Family Camp sponsors:

CHS Patient Satisfaction Survey

The bleeding disorder treatment centres recently went through a rigorous self-assessment of their services. A national report was published with the results of these assessments; click here to consult it.

It is now time for patients to tell us about the care and treatment they are receiving in their treatment centre. The survey will identify strengths and weaknesses in the care and treatment services provided by treatment centres from the patient’s or caregiver’s point of view. The information gathered will be used to evaluate how well the centres are meeting the Canadian Integrated and Comprehensive Care Standards for Inherited Bleeding Disorders. The goal is continuous improvement.

Below you will find the link to the survey. Please share it every time you can with your members. The more responses we have, the more relevant the data will be.

A flyer promoting the survey, which will include a QR code as easy access to the survey, will also be made available in a few weeks to chapters should they want to hand it out at community events. It will also be sent to treatment centres across the country.

2023 Golf Tournament - Best Ever!

Congratulations to Aimee Veldkamp, Kevin Dudych, Tony Tavares and Cam Dueck for a very successful August 3rd tournament! We welcomed 84 golfers and doubled the previous year's' revenue! The 2023 Golf Committee made significant improvements to the event including the new August date, changing the venue to Bel Acres and attracting many new sponsors. Easy Member Service Reimbursement Online!

The CHS-MC Member Services Policy was developed to provide support, in the form of financial assistance, to Chapter members for eligible expenses that are related to living with a bleeding disorder. You can visit all the services we provide in Member Services on the Chapter website.

CHS-MC Member Services will help to cover expenses that are:

  • related to living with inherited bleeding disorders and their complications
  • recommended for treatment by a member of the Manitoba Bleeding Disorders Program (MBDP) treatment team
  • NOT covered by other agencies or insurance plans
  • identified by the Member Services Committee as eligible expenses
Note: The Chapter MAY consider other expenses not listed in the policy on the website. Contact the Chapter office at 204.775.8625 and we will help you prepare a claim.

We have created an online reimbursement process to make it easier for you! You can attach photos of your parking receipts or a digital receipt. If you prefer to mail in a claim, you are welcome to download the Member Service Reimbursement Form and mail it in with the receipts.
