Enquirer names Greater Cincinnati high school athletes of the week, Oct. 27

Beacon Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine Athletes of the Week have been named after a week-long vote.

In a vote that ended Oct. 27, Cincinnati.com readers selected the Beacon Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine Athletes of the Week from high school sports action through Oct. 22.

Fall winners through Oct. 20 will receive certificates sent to the athletic departments within the next week. The remaining certificates will be mailed at the end of the season.

The Beacon Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine Athlete of the Week voting occurs during all high school sports seasons and recognizes athletes across all sports. Here are this week's winners for the 2023-2024 high school sports season.

Ohio football team: West Clermont – Entering the final week of the season on a four-game losing streak, West Clermont snapped the skid with a 13-10 victory over Loveland.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana football team: Newport Central Catholic – The Thoroughbreds enter the final week of the regular season on a three-game winning streak after beating Bellevue 49-14.

Boys fall team: Moeller soccer – The Crusaders opened the postseason with 10-0 shutouts of Western Brown and Aiken, improving to 19-0 overall.

Girls fall team: Indian Hill tennis – Indian Hill won the Division II team state championship in the Ohio Tennis Coaches Association team state championship.

Ohio boys cross country: Calvin Kilgallon, Lebanon – He took seventh place at the Division I Cedarville district meet with a time of 15:52.10.

Ohio girls cross country: Alynna Wilson, Lebanon – The senior finished third in the Cedarville Division I district race with an 18:43.90.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana boys cross country: Bradyn Hatton, East Central – He qualified for the Indiana state meet with a 16th-place finish at the Shelbyville regional meet.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana girls cross country: Maggie Durrett, Holy Cross – The eighth-grader took the runner-up spot at the Class 1A, Region 4 meet to lead the Indians to a team qualification for the state meet.

Ohio big-school football: Evan Clephane, West Clermont – The senior had 12 tackles, eight solo, as the Wolves beat Loveland 13-10.

Ohio small-school football: Troy Harris, Bethel-Tate – He caught four passes for 148 yards and three touchdowns in the Tigers’ 60-7 win over Fayetteville-Perry.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana football: Miles Garrett, Ludlow – The senior ran for 150 yards and two touchdowns and caught five passes for 75 yards and a touchdown in a win over Holy Cross.

Ohio boys golf: Cayse Morgan, Elder – The junior shot a 142 at the Division I tournament, finishing tied for third place overall.

Ohio girls golf: Clare Yeazell, Lakota East – Yeazell shot a 146 to finish seventh at the Division I state tournament, the highest finish for a local golfer.

Big-school boys soccer: Brody Blazer, Turpin – The senior had two goals and an assist in the Spartans’ 6-0 win over Goshen in the sectional tournament.

Ohio small-school boys soccer: Ryan Kennebeck, Indian Hill – The senior had a goal and two assists in the Braves’ 6-0 win over Taylor in the sectional tournament.

Big-school girls soccer: Emma Hartmann, Little Miami – The junior had eight saves in the team’s 2-0 win over Sycamore in the sectional tournament.

Ohio small-school girls soccer: Meran Phelps, Indian Hill – She shut out McNicholas in goal during the Braves’ win in the sectional tournament.

Girls singles tennis player: Sophia Thompson, Indian Hill – She finished as OHSAA Division II state runner-up, falling to Bexley’s Amiya Bowles in the state final for the second consecutive season. She then helped the Braves win the Division II team championship in a tournament sponsored by the Ohio Tennis Coaches Association.

Girls doubles tennis team: Emma Wagner/Pratyusha Chaudhuri, Mason – They won the OHSAA Division I state doubles championship, 6-1, 6-0 over New Albany. Then on Saturday, they helped the Comets win the Division I team championship in a tournament sponsored by the Ohio Tennis Coaches Association.

Ohio big-school volleyball: Alyse Smith, Ursuline Academy – The junior had a strong game with a kill, 13 assists, three service aces and seven digs in the recent win over Loveland, helping the Lions move on to round three of the tournament.

Ohio small-school volleyball: Lauren Runyon, East Clinton – She had 22 kills, nine digs and three blocks in two sectional wins.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana volleyball: Kiana Dinn, Ryle – She had 30 assists, 10 digs, six kills and two blocks in the 33rd District championship game against Conner.

Water polo player: Francesco Chacon, Sycamore – During the Aviators playoff run, Chacon went 4-for-5 shooting in two games, had six steals, one ejection drawn and two field blocks while committing only one turnover the whole weekend.
