Terrafirmat is a startup company with a focus on creating novel and sustainable products that can be used by home-gardeners, horticulturists, agriculturists, forestry and other land applications. In Scotland we have a rich abundance of raw materials that have incredible potential as natural soil improvers. Based on collaborative research and development there is incredible scope to develop novel products that can help us achieve net-zero and have long-lasting positive environmental impacts. Terrafirmat is committed to finding innovative and sustainable soil solutions.

Last month SSC were fortunate to be invited to Isle of Barra & Vatersay in the Outer Hebrides to work with local entrepreneurs and businesses to understand their challenges and help brainstorm for solutions to help grow their businesses.   The islanders are leaders in understanding sustainable development and are taking part in a pilot scheme (Carbon Neutral Islands) to achieve Net Zero by 2040. It is abundantly clear that this is a population who really understand the need for balance between culture, society, environment, and economic viability.    There are challenges for sure; being a remote community reliant on ferry and air connectivity often effected by weather with a high dependence on tourism and fishing for income they have been impacted by both Brexit and Covid significantly.    Their response has been to work together to find solutions, to create plans for the future which will underpin their evolution to a greener, smarter economy retaining and expanding their localism focus.    The summary report is available here: https://lnkd.in/eVRiDUdi #isleofbarra #sustainabledevelopment #netzero
