Dear Parent/Guardian, 

Please be advised that the Texas Education Knowledge and Skills- (TEKS) have additional Student Expectations- (SE.) The six areas consist of
Physical Health and Hygiene
Mental Health and Wellness
Healthy Eating and Physical Activity
Injury and Violence Prevention
Alcohol, Tobacco, and other Drugs
Reproductive and Sexual Health

The five different age-appropriate workbooks contain similar topics for youth ages 10 to 18 years old while increasing in the maturity level each year to fulfill the Texas Health TEKS. Senate Bill 9 instruction regarding child abuse, family violence, dating violence, and sex trafficking are included in the TEKS and in the ESTEEM program.

Winnsboro School District will be facilitating ESTEEM in grades 6th, 7th, 8th, and 10th.

The district will be separating the boys and girls for Lesson Three and Lesson Four.

Trained teachers from your school district will be delivering the ESTEEM program.  

Topics include:
Lesson 1: Goal setting for improved academic outcomes / Career planning
Lesson 2: How to navigate positive and negative media influences
Lesson 3: Puberty and human development/True cost of teen pregnancy/Fatherhood
Lesson 4: Physical and emotional consequences / Benefits of waiting / Character counts
Lesson 5: Legal consequences of cyberbullying/Sexting/Child support/Family & criminal laws
Lesson 6: Dangers of drug, alcohol, and tobacco use/Brain development
Lesson 7: Peer pressure and refusal skills/Bullying/Depression, suicide, and self-harm
Lesson 8: Communication skills/Problem solving steps/Emotional intelligence/Time-out steps
Lesson 9: Friendships/Gangs & cliques/Dating standards/Breaking up/Abstinence/Abuse
Lesson 10: Reviewing goals/Self-discipline/Having a growth mindset/Commitment & marriage

Research shows that parent engagement in their child’s decision-making skills is closely linked to better behavior, higher academic achievement, and enhanced social skills.  Parent engagement also increases the likelihood that children and adolescents will avoid unhealthy behaviors. Parent/family- Continuing Conversation worksheets are available in the SHAC/Parent section of your school website for downloading. 

Parent Preview Night will be held on: Feb 15th 5:30 PM- 6:30 PM - in person

Parents and Guardian can review the workbook, receive a resource packet, and Continuing Conversation worksheets. If you cannot attend the Preview Night, you are welcome to review the ESTEEM workbooks located at the school’s office.
