Museveni cancels advertising directive

President Museveni has this evening canceled a directive he issued restricting government advertising to the national broadcaster UBC and New Vision.

The decision followed a meeting with the leadership team of the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB).

NAB chairperson Kin Kariisa welcomed the development, "I am grateful to H.E President Kaguta Museveni for considering NAB's input and granting reversal of the directive."

Kariisa thanked the president for continuing to champion a private sector led economy and ensuring that thousands of workers in various media houses will continue to compete fairly for government advertising.

He commended the members of NAB for standing together in this trying moment and bringing to the attention of government how hurtful the directive was going to be to Uganda's vibrant media landscape.
