AFSCME Local 397 Strike Fund

We are AFSCME Local 397: a union of museum and cultural workers in the City of Philadelphia. We love the arts, we love Philadelphia, and we love our work. That’s why we formed a union. Our workplaces are also civic institutions with a responsibility to serve the people of Philadelphia. We believe that building community and collective power among museum workers will make our workplaces safer, more equitable, and more inclusive for staff and visitors alike.

AFSCME Local 397 Strike Fund

AFSCME Local 397 (PMA Union and Penn Museum Workers United) is raising money for a strike fund! This fund will support workers who go on strike, withholding their labor and sacrificing their pay to win change in their workplace. Your donation to the Local 397 strike fund will make a concrete difference in union members’ ability to fight for real improvements at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Penn Museum, and other institutions where workers may join us in the future. If you believe that museum workers deserve fair pay, transparent systems, safe working conditions, and job security, please donate today!

Are you on strike right now?

No! As of October 14, 2022, Local 397-PMA Union has reached a tentative agreement on a contract with PMA management. Thanks in large part to the generous donations to our strike fund, PMA workers were able to win their strike after a history-making 19 days out on the picket line.

Penn Museum Workers United (also part of Local 397) has been negotiating a first contract with University of Pennsylvania management for about a year. Negotiations are ongoing.

What happens to the money?

It is held in an AFSCME Local 397 strike fund account. If members of Local 397 vote to authorize a strike and a strike is called, funds will be disbursed in accordance with rules approved by our members.

Can I write a check instead?

Yes! Checks can be made out to AFSCME Local 397 Strike Fund and mailed to AFSCME Local 397 Strike Fund, 1606 Walnut Street 2nd Floor, Philadelphia PA 19103.

Can anyone donate?
