Resolution Recognizing Joanie Juster

 

 

BE IT KNOWN That the Commission on the Status of Women of the City & County of San Francisco hereby issues and authorizes the execution, by the subscribing Commissioners, of the following commendation:

 

WHEREAS, When the AIDS epidemic struck in the 1980s, Joanie Juster felt compelled to help; and she has been volunteering ever since; Ms. Juster usually works behind the scenes instead of on stage; her work involves fundraising, event production and publicity, and grassroots community organizing for programs fighting AIDS, breast cancer, poverty and social injustice; and,

 

WHEREAS, From the intimacy of one-on-one client care for people with AIDS, to organizing rallies and fundraisers, her goal has always been to be there for those who need not just financial help, but someone to stand up for them; and,

 

WHREAS, Ms. Juster is best known for her work with the NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt, AIDS Emergency Fund, AIDS Walk, Shanti, Breast Cancer Emergency Fund, and Marriage Equality USA, but her work extends to many other causes as well, including LGBTQ rights, suicide prevention, transgender rights, opposition to the death penalty, homelessness intervention, civil rights advancement, Alzheimer's treatment, and pedestrian safety;

 

NOW THERFORE BE IT RESOLVED That the San Francisco Commission on the Status of Women, on the occasion of the 2017 PRIDE Month, commends Joanie Juster for her tremendous contributions to the LGBT and women’s communities and wishes her continued success.
