GOMBAK: Let me show you how to improve Kedah, Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has told Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor.

Hitting back at Muhammad Sanusi who claimed that Selangor’s development was not due to the policies of the Pakatan Harapan state government but because of being located close to Kuala Lumpur, Amirudin said Penang was just next to Kedah as well.

“The Kedah Mentri Besar didn’t look in the mirror. Penang is just next door...he shouldn’t think that way.

“Kuala Lumpur was previously a part of Selangor,” he told reporters after attending the Madani Afiat programme launch here on Sunday (July 9).

Amirudin added that Penang was growing with big investments, while also being one of the biggest contributors to the national economy.

“Kedah, however, is lagging behind.

“He (Muhammad Sanusi) should question himself first before looking at other places. His ‘eyes are big’ but he has not managed to see the issues that need resolving back home.

“Don’t worry, I am going to Kedah next week, and will explain to him how to make Kedah like Selangor,” he added.

Separately, Amirudin said the statement accusing him of being rude towards former mentor Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali did not take into consideration what the latter first said.

“Don’t look at my statement alone, but also what led to it. Respect is not only about the young towards their seniors, but also for the older ones to appreciate their future.

“If they can’t respond with facts, then they may resort to personal attacks or being rude,” he added.

Amirudin’s comments came after former Umno member Datuk Zaharin Mohd Yasin said the Selangor Mentri Besar was rude for targeting Mohamed Azmin during a Pakatan event recently.

On Malay-majority seats in northern Selangor, Amirudin said the race there was still wide open.

“Those seats are not traditionally won by any party. Prior to the general election in 2018, Barisan won those seats but we (Pakatan) have made inroads there.

“Only recently, does Perikatan Nasional have some advantage there. The race is still wide open for all parties,” he said, adding that he was confident that the Pakatan-led administration's track record as well as cooperation with Barisan could help win the seats.

“Perikatan targeting only those seats showed they are not confident of taking over Selangor as a whole, and are focusing their efforts on being a strong Opposition.

“We will work hard up till the state polls,” he said.
