JOB ANNOUNCEMENT The Georgetown University Center for Global Health Practice and Impact (CGHPI) serves countries to improve their population health and wellbeing and to safeguard against health-related threats by advancing the use of evidence and human-centered enterprise architecture on the path towards achieving equity and social justice. To achieve this mission, we catalyze the uptake, spread, and implementation of innovations; triangulate data from different sources, and tailor visualization of the information for each audience; design and implement integrated service delivery models; support communities of practice to inform policy and practice through efficient data use and horizontal and vertical collaboration; disseminate best practices and evidence globally through open-source learning networks; build global, collaborative, multi-disciplinary, and interprofessional networks; undertake research that is informed by local needs; and invest in local leadership to own, provide oversight, and sustain implemented interventions. Georgetown University, through CGHPI, has recently received an award from U.S Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (U.S. CDC) through funding from the U.S President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) to support HIV response efforts in Cameroon for achievement of HIV epidemic control to implement a program titled Translating Data and Evidence into Impact (TIDE). As a result, CGHPI is recruiting for the following program implementation position. All prospective candidates must be fluent in French and working knowledge of English. These positions will be based in Yaoundé or Bertoua. CGHPI is operating in Cameroon as Georgetown Global Health LLC (GGHC). Position: Laboratory Equipment Maintenance/Biomedical Engineer Reports to: Program Director Location of Work: Yaounde, Cameroon Number of positions: 1 Type of contract: Permanent Position Summary: The Laboratory Equipment Maintenance/Biomedical Engineer provides professional expert service and support for high-tech/high-end laboratory research equipment by performing field service repairs, maintenance, calibrations and alignments of facility/hospital lab equipment. He/she will be a mentor to junior maintenance personnel, and will prepare, plan and complete user maintenance and equipment operation training sessions. The Engineer will deliver the highest level of service to maximize equipment uptime while minimizing maintenance costs. He / She will work within guidelines established by the Program director, and will follow established standard operating procedures. Essential Functions: • Respond quickly to maintenance, calibration, alignment, and troubleshooting requests • Complete assigned work at the highest possible level of quality and in a timely manner • Coordinate with end-user to schedule equipment maintenance and other services • Confer with lab equipment operators/manufacturers/agents to identify and diagnose problems and implement appropriate solutions • Coordinate with off-site and on-site, local and international, technical teams / specialists, vendors, etc. when ensuring the proper repair and alignment of equipment • Identify required spare parts and facilitates the ordering process • Complete grammatically correct service reports for all maintenance performed • Provide sufficiently detailed, grammatically correct, and regular communications to end-users • Maintain Field Service Reports to record all service-related activities • Participate in professional development trainings, seminars and other activities to remain at a highly competent level of expertise on assigned equipment • Instruct end user on preventative equipment maintenance strategies and proper instrument use • Provide occasional value-added user training sessions on assigned equipment within expertise • Comply with HSE safety policies, practices and procedures at all times • Develop and maintain safe habits and practices with regard to safety requirements on site and in the workshop and report any breaches or concerns on health and safety matters to the appropriate supervisor • Work closely and productively with the Lab QMS lead in a professional manner to define and complete any additional objectives • Ability to work extended hours (as needed) Qualifications and Experience: • Bachelor or postgraduate degree in Science and/or Engineering • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a certified service engineer for Hospital / lab equipment maintenance; equipment qualification and systems validation, equipment qualifications and validation protocols • Demonstrated ability to properly troubleshoot all major laboratory equipment /components, maintain, replace, and align different lab systems • Efficiently manages a varied workload while under pressure; accomplishing tasks with minimal supervision • Demonstrated effective leadership ability • Team player with a flexible can-do attitude • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills • Strong planning and organizational skills • Ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner • Excellent command of the English and French language (read, write and speak English) • Ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural international environment and help foster a cooperative work environment • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office applications • Ability to develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) Instructions for Submitting Applications 1.
