Spanish airline to join Manchester throng

SPANISH airline Vueling, is launching Manchester to Barcelona route in June.

The Barcelona-based airline, part of International Airlines Group which owns British Airways ,  will operate the flight to El Prat Airport four times a week from June 19.

The flight will depart Manchester on Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday flying to Terminal 1 El Prat Airport, Vueling’s main hub. It will be operated by an Airbus A320, with capacity for 180 passengers.

Ken O’Toole,  chief commercial officer at Manchester Airport said: “Vueling’s commencement of service to Manchester further strengthens our position in the North West and beyond in providing customers with the widest choice of airlines and destinations to choose from.”

Julio Rodriguez, his counterpart at Vueling , added: “Vueling is one of Europe’s leading low fare carriers and this new route to Barcelona,  means passengers from Manchester will be able to visit this top destination during the summer but also reach our other 140 destinations across Europe, the Middle East and Africa with our connecting flights.”

Vueling was only launched in July, 2004 with two Airbus A320s and operated just four routes. In its first decade it carried more than 75 million passengers.
