Yeah I would do all of those things if I thought they were going to matter before the fort is done, but at this stage I'm not that worried about optimizing the military uniforms any more.

I could definitely do a state-of-the-fortress update, and I think doing one near or at the end is a good idea, I just didn't want anyone to think I'd be able to do it before the latest update (because it was already recorded).

Also, once Bronzestabbed is finished I intend to provide all of the saves. That's all of the saves, every seasonal save for the entire history of the fortress, which I have been collecting. At that point all spoilers are despoiled and everyone can go hog wild. I know one or two goons have expressed interest in exploring the site in adventurer mode, for example. I'm sure we can upload one or more saves to the DF map archive too.

I hadn't even thought about adventure mode. Should be fun to explore and see the chaos. Too bad all items in the fortress will get scattered across the whole embark, because as I understand it there are a LOT of items in Bronzestabbed. Also a shame it isn't on the new version because :iit:.

I understand that there's a sequence of commands you can use in dfhack to abandon a site without actually abandoning it, so that it remains intact for adventurer mode? I don't know much about it but I think there's ways to do it.

Have you heard about First Dog? It's a very good comic I just love.

Also, wear your bike helmets kids. I copped several blows to the head but my helmet left me totally unscathed.

Finally you should check out First Dog as it's a good comic I like it very much.

AggressivelyStupid ceased searching for new materials and began work today. Her tiny hands move with unnatural precision, her eyes glazed unfocused, the spirit within performing her labor.

I returned to the new digs. My pick slices dirt clods with soft thumps.

Word has come. AggressivelyStupid has created Assarminbaz, “The Circumstantial Enchantments”, a raw adamanine amulet!

It is spectacular, celebrating no specific image or event, merely the sublime art of art itself. Its title obviously references the mood under which it was created.

The item has tremendous value. No dwarf can recall anyone as young creating an artifact.

I dropped the last remnant of the maze to spare Grey Hunter another fall.

He stood below as I was swept off my feet and sucked down into the earth by the sudden rush of wind. Gravel and soil pelted my face and filled my eyes and I lost my senses as I slammed into the surface below.

When I regained consciousness I gradually realized my left arm felt sore and I was winded but there are no broken bones therefore I surmise I am uninjured.

Grey Hunter nodded to me a small smile on his face and then left without speaking.

16th Obsidian
With the next trench dug I have ordered the last bridge constructed. When it is done we will be able to force enemies to cross before our ballista battery but not force friends to walk that line.

Having received a splint for her broken hand Daeren declared she is finished resting and returned to duty.

Her hand is infected and smashed but I am not a doctor to say it will not heal.

The mining proceeds in fits and starts as dwarves spend more time wandering the long hall between Ugathville and the main chambers of Bronzestabbed than they do cutting earth.

What dwarf at Bronzestabbed would dare to sell a ballista bolt?

Bronze Phalluscolossus, a child, was surprised by a kobold skulking outside the east gate.

After slashing the boy's trousers the cowardly creature fled into the brush.

The Queen enjoys building bridges. Her thin hands lift smooth blocks of stone with careful certainty her wrinkled skin translucent in the bright sunlight.

1st Granite 253
On the first day of the year 253, Queen Sankis Uzolbesmar lay down in the ballista ammunition stockpile. She smiled, her frail hand rubbing the smooth wood of a giant arrow, its gleaming copper point palely reflecting her white hair.

Nearby, DaveCG, a planter, and Mutant Headcrab, a peasant, looked over in surprise to see her close her eyes and the breath rattle in her throat as she died. Rushing to her side they cried out to find her gone and the news was passed through Bronzestabbed in short minutes. Soon every dwarf had heard that we have lost our Queen.

Zulban Uzolbesmar “Oilypulleys” was born in the year 90 and married at a very young age her beloved husband Onget Metalllabors in 105. Onget died in 203 after ninety-seven years of marriage. Zulban was the only daughter of Kold Whirledblockades and Datan Shieldtalks and bore no children. The Queen labored as a metalsmith and fisherdwarf in her youth, and was a fisherdwarf in Metalpages from 105 until 180, seventy-five years of quiet and unremarkable work. In 180 she and her husband undertook the life of rangers, scouting the area around Metalpages. In 189 she faced the minotaur Kafek Goldenblazes the Perplexing Chaos, and though defeated she escaped unharmed.

22 years after the death of her husband she became Queen of The Rare Ship in 225 and settled in the capitol Paintfamous. Sixteen years later, she moved to Bronzestabbed on 13th Slate 241, her presence making this fortress both a Mountainhome and the Capitol. Upon arrival she adopted permanently the pseudonym “Sankis” by which she previously had traveled incognito for purposes of escaping the bureaucracy and conspicuousness of the royal court at Paintfamous. Here she ruled for another twelve years - twenty-eight years in total was her reign. When she died she was 162 years old.

Queen Sankis revered Ugath Muckcrypts above all other gods of our pantheon. Many have wondered although seldom wondered aloud why our ruler worshiped the misshapen god of disease and deformity rather than a more noble god such as Igest or Osram or Esar or Lorsith. I believe Sankis viewed Ugath as an ever-present reminder to her of the rot that formed within the heart of our civilization, the decay that she has spent her years opposing. Perhaps she prayed to Ugath to spare The Rare Ship. I do not know for certain, for as with many other things my Queen has often preferred to keep her own council. In every manner of communication she was circumspect and even obscure, suggesting with hints and oblique instructions the path she desired me to follow.

I have come to understand that the Queen could not (or would not) state her plans plainly or directly; rather I believe she possessed a feeling as to the direction and outcome she desired, and an intuition as to probable paths to get there. Perhaps it is the same instinct with which she safely navigated the wilderness as a ranger for so many years. That may be why she has made use of so many ordinary dwarves as her Overseers here at Bronzestabbed – myself first and last – to undertake her great work largely free of explicit instructions.

The only exception to her inscrutable influences was her undying love and care for ballistae. Far beyond mere concern for defense was her fascination with the largest and most complex (if not always the most deadly) of dwarven weaponcraft. We will never receive again a mandate for the construction of ballista bolts: yet I vow we will ensure it is forevermore our Tradition that Bronzestabbed will maintain an ample stockpile always. Whenever we craft another ballista bolt we shall do so in remembrance of her.

The Queen having borne no children has left The Rare Ship without a dynasty. If she ever designated an heir I do not have a record of it nor did she ever mention it to me. With the next dwarven caravan I will send letters to Paintfamous to inquire if there are records in the old Capitol but I am not optimistic.

For now I do not know any protocol to select a monarch and am content to live without one until my task is complete lest her replacement give orders that contradict my Queen's most fervent final wishes.

I am overcome with sadness and grief. It has taken me hours to inscribe this entry into the Overseer's Journal. Without the guidance of my Queen I am alone in authority of Bronzestabbed in a way I have never been before.

Queen Sankis' greatest desire she confided to me was to see her grand plan secured before she died. Although she looked out over the fields before Bronzestabbed to view our recent diggings underway, it is a tragedy she has past beyond this world without the final answer to the great question of her rule: through the sacrifice at Bronzestabbed of so much effort and so many dwarven lives, is it possible to defeat with finality the source of evil that has infected The Rare Ship? Or was this great endeavor all in vain, the greatest and most tragic blunder of our civilization's history?

Sankis will never know. But I will do my duty to her even in her death. We are too close now to turn back. Her life and the lives of all those gone can only be honored by our unwavering commitment to this cause: until we see it completed, or we are cast down in failure and ruin.

I'm not what you would call an artist.

From the journal of symuun Asteshtashem

The queen is dead. It was inevitable.

Her death is the talk of the fortress. "She will be missed", some say. "Her mandates will not", say others.

In truth, I shall miss both.

I came to Bronzestabbed an adequate potter, but was told on arrival that pottery is a worthless profession. Also, that being one hundred and fifty-three years of age at time of arrival I really ought to have learned more or better or more useful skills.

I cannot in good conscience disagree with either statement. Therefore, if Overseer Veloxyll said I was a siege operator and a carpenter, then a siege operator-carpenter I was. I hoped I might distinguish myself by slaughtering an enemy or, failing that, by crafting a particularly fine Bed.

And now Sankis Uzolbesmar, Queen, has died of old age. I too am old, only two years younger than Her Majesty, and her death reminds me of my own ever more fragile mortality. Though cowardice and an excess of hauling duties have thus far prevented me from drawing the enemy's blood, Sankis' constant demands for more siege weapons gave me hope that I might yet make a name for myself in battle. Perhaps, before I die, I shall be permitted to export ballista arrows to goblin faces. I would be quite content with that.

Just the updates I've made during the last year (jesus) take up over 500MB of space. I've stopped storing the raw screenshots, too, I only keep the edited ones. This does include the size of my .odt update files, but those are negligible compared to the image files.

Add in the rest of the LP and I suspect it's more like a gig. Which is still not that much memory, but I guess the LP archive's goals are to create a cross-section of as many games as possible, instead of just capturing all LPs.
