Getting There

1) Public Transport

You can easily visit Stonehenge on your own by taking one of the frequent South Western Railway trains from Waterloo station to the nearby city of Salisbury.

From there catch the Stonehenge Tour Bus right outside the station to get to the site.  Trains leave London about every half hour and the travel time out of the city is about 90 minutes while the buses from Salisbury station leave every hour and take about 30 minutes to arrive at Stonehenge.

2) Tour Groups

There are several tour companies that go out to Stonehenge starting at around £50.  Some companies combine the trip with stops at neighboring cities like Windsor and Bath for around £90.  For those planning on making a full day of exploring Stonehenge and other areas around the site, this may be the option for you.

Travel Tip
There are no left luggage facilities at Stonehenge or at the Salisbury train station but you can leave your bags at the Railway Tavern, a pub down the street from the train station at a cost of £3.

Hours of Operation

Stonehenge opens up to visitors at 9:30am year round except for the summer months of June to August when it opens a half hour earlier at 9am.

Closing times vary throughout the year.  Most of the year Stonehenge closes at 7pm however it is open an hour later until 8pm during the summer.  In the winter months from mid-October to the end of March, Stonehenge closes at 5pm.

It is important to note, though, that last entrance to the site is 2 hours before their posted closing times.

Admission Prices

1) Adults

Admission to Stonehenge is £19.50 for adults with a concession price of £17.60 for students with valid ID.

2) Children

Admission for children aged 5-15 years old is £11.70 and for those under 5 it’s free.

3) Familes

Stonehenge also has a family admission price of £50.70 good for 2 adults and 3 children under 16 years old.

Travel Tip
Although you generally can just buy your tickets at the ticket office, if you're visiting during the summer months, you may want to buy your tickets in advance online at the official website for Stonehenge.
The tickets are assigned time slots and are offered at a slightly cheaper price.
More Travel Tips

Best time To Visit

Stonehenge is busy year round especially during the summer months.  Tour groups coming from London generally visit the site between 10am and noon and then again in the early afternoon.

To avoid the crush of tourists on tour groups, try aiming for an early morning visit or later in the afternoon.
