About
Chronophantasma is the third entry in the Blazblue series, a fast-paced 2-D anime fighting game from Arc System Works, the developers of the Guilty Gear and Persona 4: The Ultimate series.
With 7 new playable characters, updates to the returning cast, and several mechanics changes, Chronophantasma offers a gameplay experience much different from the first two titles making it a good entry point for players looking to pick up the series.

Features
  • A Story Mode consisting of three main storylines culminating to a true end replaces individual storylines.
  • 7 new characters and all returning characters from previous games bring the roster to 26 characters.
  • Color palettes can now be previewed in character select.
  • A new online lobby where players control chibi avatars with free movement. Within lobbies are virtual arcades allowing players to pick challengers at occupied machines or to wait for one in a vacant machine.
  • Player match rooms have been updraded with an increased room size of 8, text chat, and room types including training and replay viewing rooms.
  • The Glossary mode has been added which includes both BlazBlue and fighting game terminology such as "okizeme" and "mashing."
  • Teach Me More! Miss Litchi mode has been updated with scenarios recapping the events prior to Chronophantasma.
New Game Mechanics
  • Gold Break Bursts and Guard Primers have been removed. Overdrive and Crush trigger take their places.
  • Overdrive provides increased attack power and character-specific benefits with duration being based on current HP. The timer is also paused during Overdrive. Performed with A+B+C+D.
  • Crush Trigger allows players to break the opponent's guard by using 25% heat. Can be barrier blocked, but Crush Triggers can also be delayed. Performed using 5A+B.
  • Bursts now regenerate instead of being a preset number per match.
  • Hitstop has been lessened and combos are intended to be shorter/faster.
  • Just holding A can be used to tech.

Be Ready For The Rebel Against Time

Chrono Phantasma has three story modes:

ib02pnKvDUMXr2.png

Chrono Phantasma, the main story.

By the end of Continuum Shift, Jin and Noel have left the NOL, and Makoto has abandoned Sector 7. They have joined Ragna the Bloodedge, Rachel, Jubei, and a host of others to travel to Ikaruga and find a way to stop Hazama and Relius, and the seemingly omnipotent Imperator; Saya.

Meanwhile, Tsubaki and Litchi, mislead by Yuuki Terumi, have joined The Imperator to eliminate any who oppose the Librarium.

Arakune has been taken by the NOL, and Litchi has been convinced this is the only way to save her wayward beloved.

Tsubaki, swearing off all ties to her former friends, has completely given in to the will of the Imperator, and will cut down any traitors in her way.

Allegiances are changing everywhere. Those who should be dead are appearing unscathed, and new adversaries forge new alliances behind the scenes and at center stage.
Is anyone's loyalty certain?

With the advent of the Chrono Phantasma, only Time will tell.

Six Heroes, revolving around the trials that plague the group that formed to stop the Black Beast many years ago. Hakumen, Valkenhayn, Jubei, Nine, Terumi, and Bloodedge.

Will their union be enough to endure the trials of the Black Beast, or will the machinations of a traitor tear their fragile formation apart?

Sector Seven, focusing on the rebel group that seeks to destroy the Librarium. Kokonoe, S7's mad scientist extraordinaire, has been content to watch from the sidelines.

However, with Terumi's plan shifting into high gear, she's no longer willing to sit back and observe. She has to take action.

Except another member of Sector Seven, the vicious wanderer known as Azrael, seeks to destroy both her and Tager. Why?

Import Notes
  • Gameplay is import friendly, though you might not get much out of the story without being able to read Japanese.
  • Kokonoe and (most likely) Terumi are DLC characters so a JPN PSN account will be needed to acquire them.
  • Online pass is unknown at the moment.
  • Game can be imported from the usual places like AmiAmi, CDJapan, Play-Asia, etc.

I'm importing this game with a friend of mine. We were never really any good in the previous BBs so hopefully this works out as a nice starting point for us.

My pre-order at Play-Asia is already placed, my friends and me couldn't wait till March 2014 :p One question about Terumi and Kokonoe though, will they be pre-order/first-print DLCs or do we actually have to grab a Japanese PSN card to get them? :(

Release Date: October 24, 2013 (JP), Q1 2014 (NA)

I almost feel like Q4 2014 should be added as a European date... I wouldn't be surprised if it takes that long tbh.

Oh well, nice OT anyway.

Will import but Play-Asia has the Asian special edition listed as having English subs, have previous Asian releases included this or is it wrong?

Asian release has an English option, yes. The story will still be in japanese though. I think it's only the menu's and written stuff that are in english

I'm not getting the import, but some people here are so I'll be playing it now and then anyways

Man, I want to try the new characters already.

Not entirely sure about Terumi eventually, but Kokonoe is paid DLC. Hopefully not as expensive as BBCS characters.

First print will all come with Terumi, so you should get that with your copy. Kokonoe isn't, and there's no release date yet for her.
So you'll have to grab a Japanese PSN card at least for her.

I look forward to clobbering you all in yet another revision of this silly game.

Ah okay alright I see thanks! No Kokonoe right off the start is a bit of a bummer but I have a friend who will be very very happy about Terumi atleast :D I have Bullet and Izayoi in the meantime till Kokonoe arrives :p

For those that are like me and find Jourdals vids too low quality/blurry for the eyes A-Cho Battle Movie/Gameacho also hosts BBCP tourney's/casuals every week or so, so you should be able to find plenty of CP coverage there as well. Video quality tends to be higher(not that it's saying much) and they are always cropped correctly as well. He also hosts a bunch of other FG tourneys of other games that generally don't get a lot of play(LB2, SFA3, KOF2k2, MB, JJ etc.)

I'll actually be learning this game, so you're on >:[

I am ready to be destroyed by everyone in this thread for months while I learn.

aw yes digital, forgive me for asking but how much would this be in us monies?
About $70, but the Japanese PSN store doesn't accept foreign credit cards, so you'll have to buy PSN store point cards from Play-Asia or another importer. A 5000Y point card currently goes for about $60 on P-A, and you'll need at least 7000Y to get the game, more if you want to buy Kokonoe/any other future DLC. So it's gonna cost a good bit more that way, but it's instant! No shipping times!

Probably around $100-120 since it's 6,800 yen and you'll have to get a 10,000 yen PSN card so expect some markup. You'll have the money for Kokonoe though.

Not entirely sure who I'm going to play as especially since Hazama, someone I used to main is high tier.

I can't wait for the US release. I put the order into import this a month or two back. I'm hoping play-asia gets it to me quick.

Gonna wait for the NA version.

But more importantly, will we ever possibly see a playable Jubei? :(
I'm glad for the Kokonoe fans but, its a cat with two swords! I wanna play that!

It's not like I'm one of those people that just like to pick mid/low tier characters so when I lose I can be all high and mighty. I just find the whole CCCCCC combos to be pretty boring. My big hope is that all the time I spent with Carl can translate in this version to some actual wins.

I never really followed this game but hasn't Hazama always been good? I just assumed he and Valkenhayn were two characters who have never been bad.

So, this game is finaly coming out... I have all previous games, but this is the first time I'm not hyped. I don't like the changes of mechanic (except shorter hit stop) and the story became really confusing after all those novels, short stories and comics which are mainly only in japanese.
I guess I'll buy it anyway...

One of my main problems with recent versions were guard primers. They were so bad especially when bursting with some characters left you with two. Also crush triggers are really flashy and cool imo. Overdrive I'm more neutral about, but I do think it adds to the over the top craziness.

After much debilitating, I'm for sure gonna main Izayoi now. Her character design and playstyle are just too good to pass up. Dustloop says she sucks though, but I don't care!

BBCP finally gives me a guard crush I don't hate.
CT's Guard Libra and CS's Guard Primers were awful.

Extend's kind of turned me away since it made it worse.

I've only watched videos, but it kinda seems like mixup in this game is fast enough that people can't just sit there and block everything anyway.

Shorter hit-stop/shorter combos is a change I love. Extend's combos were wayyyyy too long, almost Marvel bad in that one hit and you're pretty much relegated to watching a movie or your character just eating damage for like 10 seconds. Makes the game look much faster, and less like a combo exhibition which I dig.
