This is a non-represented position (no union affiliation) and is subject to the provisions of the Personnel Rules of the Municipality of Anchorage.

LOCATION: Muldoon Neighborhood Library 1251 Muldoon Rd., Ste. 158 Anchorage
HOURS OF WORK: Tuesday-Saturday, 9:15am-6:15pm with occasional variance

Example of Duties

Hire, train, and directly supervise several library staff, including youth services librarian. Provide reference and readers' advisory service to the public in person, via phone or electronically. Instruct public on resources including the library's online catalog, databases, the internet, and print sources. Select, weed and manage materials in specific subject area system-wide as well as the branch collection. Design and implement programs for the adult public. Manage facilities issues at the library branch, communicating with building manager, and MOA facilities. Participate in professional activities such as conference attendance and outreach to outside organizations.

Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences

Master's degree in Library Science from an American Library Associa­tion accredited school and and two years of professional library experience, one year at a supervisory level or working in youth services or adult services in a library.

Additional appropriate education may substitute for part of the specific experience requirement. 

Additional Important Information

Knowledge of: modern methods, tools and materials of library science; technical online databases and skill in doing searches. Ability to: organize and delegate work; supervise and mentor others; work effectively with other staff and public; analyze problems and propose solutions.

If selected for hire, the appointment in this position will be conditional based upon a satisfactory Background Check. A Background Check encompasses criminal history, verifying education, and verifying dates of employment.
