DCOA Delivers Keynote Address to Washington Teachers' Union Retirees

Dr. Thompson gives Keynote Address

On Wednesday, May 14th, DCOA’s Executive Director, Dr. John M. Thompson, delivered the keynote address at the Washington Teachers' Union (WTU) Retirees Chapter annual meeting during the General Membership Meeting at Howard University School of Divinity. WTU is an organization of active and retired teachers in the District that is dedicated to social and educational justice for the students throughout the District of Columbia. Dr. Thompson informed the group about DCOA's services and programs; and discussed how D.C. is working to become an Age-Friendly City.


DCOA in the Community

  • May 20, 2014 @ 10:00 a.m. Seabury Resources for Aging  - Ward 5 Senior Community Day "Safe Today, healthy tomorrow," and Dr. John Thompson will bring greetings to attendees. This event will be held at Edgewood Terrace Apartments located at 635 Edgewood Street, NE.
  • May 21, 2014 @ 11:00 a.m. Dr. John Thompson will attend and bring forth greetings at the 34th Annual Senior Volunteer Recognition Day Program at University of District of Columbia. 
  • May 21, 2014 @ 10:30 a.m. DCOA and DPR will hold a town hall meeting at Ft. Stevens Recreation Center.
  • May 22, 2014 @ 10:00 a.m. Ward 6 Seabury Resources for Aging: Information and Awareness Event. This will be our information and awareness event which will be open to all of our seniors throughout Ward 6.

Caregivers Live Web Chat

What are the Legal Needs of LGBT Who Are 50+

Whitman-Walker Health is expanding legal services to help lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender (“LGBT”) people who are 50 years of age or older, as well as those who are HIV-positive. Whitman-Walker is working with SAGE-Metro DC to learn about the wants and needs of LGBT people and are conducting a survey to gather specific information from individuals.

Brief Description of Duties: This position is located in the D.C. Office on Aging (DCOA), which has the responsibilities for providing direction and comprehensive programs and services of the Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) to seniors, caregivers and persons living with disabilities in the District of Columbia.This position is responsible for providing employability services and support District residents to find and keep competitive employment with their vocational goals.

Sarah Tribe
Associate Director, Aging & Disability Resource Center (ADRC)

Sara Tribe is leaving National Association of States United for Aging and Disability to become the Associate Director of the D.C. ADRC.  During her tenure as the Director of the Information and Referral Support Center, Sara helped launch and grow the online training platform that encourages the professionalism of Information and Referral and Assistance. Sara also was responsible for structuring the agenda for the Alliance of Information and Referral System aging and disability track. During Sara’s tenure, she has provided technical assistance to states and communities during the ADRC movement.
