Marie will be a senior next year.

I hope to have and advertise more weeks similar to spirit week. As a students at Capital High School not many things connect us, not including rivalry with HHS. I have a lot of enthusiasm and excitement for spirit week since it comes so early in the school year it comes quickly and is forgotten quickly. We have fun events and days every year but I wish we could have more weeks like that to connect us. For example, weeks leading up to a big crosstown game or something similar.

Along with this I hope that we could do more fundraisers that support students or teachers in our community. This year we did a hat day for the science teacher whose wife was hospitalized. Although we can no longer do a hat day, since summer is coming up we can try to sell otter pops or ice cream packets (which we have already started to do). With a larger fund I want to do more for the community and students such as anonymously funding some students who cannot take the AP exam because they don't have the money or other students who have a medical condition or surgery coming up, like when we did a hat day for Shelby last year.

Finally I would like to do more inspiring and uplifting events. We have seen other students go out on their own to inspire us all. They did not have to but the "You are Loved" and "You are Adored" notes taped all over the school could not help but make people smile. Maybe not notes but similar to the smile letter we just got. I believe that we could just do more nice things and try to inspire the class more. Another idea is leaving little paper origami items like stars or cranes around the school and then have the people who find them get a small prize or chocolate.

Some of the qualities I have that will best lend themselves to Student Council is optimism, dedication, and energy. My optimism keeps ideas flowing and a friendly persona that will make it easier for others to be more confident to come and talk to me about something they want to happen or be talked over in Student Council. My dedication will help me follow through with my ideas and see them happen instead of just keeping them ideas. Lastly, my energy is contagious and it will help with putting our ideas into motion.
