Duchess Meghan & Prince Harry visited a public school in Harlem!

How could Madame Duchess Meghan become even more beloved? How about by emulating the most classic American style icons of the past century: the Golden Girls!!! Meghan was out today in New York and she served up some Dorothy Zbornak Realness and I am HERE for it!! I have not seen any IDs for this ensemble, but let’s just say it’s from a designer’s Golden Girls Collection and be done with it. So where did the Sussexes go? They went to a public school: PS 123 Mahalia Jackson in Harlem. Meghan read The Bench to the kids!

The couple joined N.Y.C. Schools Chancellor Meisha Porter at P.S. 123 Mahalia Jackson School in Harlem. To promote early literacy, Meghan read her children’s book The Bench to a group of schoolchildren in second grade. Prince Harry joined the kids on the ground, sitting among them as Meghan read the story.

“I wrote this when we just had our little boy, and I haven’t read it to any other kids but you!” she told them. Meghan dedicated her book to “the man and the boy who make my heart go pump-pump,” and she told the children that the phrase came from teaching 2-year-old son Archie how the heart works. She also explained, “The idea of representation — ‘That looks like me!’ — I wanted everyone to be included in this book.”

The children drew Meghan and Prince Harry pink paper hearts with their personal stories and dedications on them, and Meghan went through them and engaged with the students by name. Meghan gave out lots of hugs, with some young girls so excited to speak with her that they wiped away tears.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex also donated two garden boxes filled with vegetables and herbs to support the school’s ongoing community efforts and the need for fresh food. Through Meghan and Harry’s Archewell Foundation’s partnership with Procter & Gamble, they are also providing health products for families at the school as well as a washing machine and dryer for students’ uniforms.

[From People]

Love that they brought garden boxes and they attached their visit to a donation of a washer and dryer and health products for the kids. The pandemic has heightened food insecurity and the lack of resources like “running water” and access to a washer and dryer on a regular basis. As for the kids crying… it reminds me of how so many kids loved it when Barack and Michelle Obama visited their school. It really matters when you’re a kid and you can see a president, a first lady or a madame duchess who looks like you.

P.S. Harry looked like a snack too. Also edited to add: the Daily Mail has the ID & cost of Meghan’s ensemble. It is, according to them, a “$5,840 Loro Piana cashmere coat and matching $1,680 pants.”

Love her outfit and the hair. They both look so good and the kids were so happy to see them. I’m excited to the Global Citizen concert.

ETA: I also love that they never come empty handed.

    • Ronaldinhio says:

Love all of it and how horrified the British red tops are that they are just working.
Working, doing decent useful things, giving to others with time and their resources

      Love it

      • Liz version 700 says:

Apparently the kids knew they were coming and made them cards, but no one tipped off the press!!! I love it! And I agree 100% the garden boxes and a washer/dryer were such thoughtful and needed gifts.

      • Jan90067 says:

Madame Duchess and her Duke, JUST DOIN’ IT! No trumpets blasting their “keeness”, they see a need, fill it, and move to make it happen.

I love the way the kids swamped Harry in the vid. He and Meghan just exude warmth and inclusion to everyone they come into contact with. You can’t buy it, you can’t fake it,

I *love* the color on Meg (jewel tones are that girl’s best friend!), and her hair looks amazing!! I’m not loving this outfit though. The coat looks too boxy, or big…? But the heaviness of the coat and the lightweight look of the pants seem a little “off” to me.

      • Becks1 says:

@Jan I think boxiness is intentional so that haters can’t focus on her body, especially as she was sitting down reading.

      • Jan90067 says:

I’m sure you’re right, Becks. That, and only being a few mos. postpartum/breast feeding. I’m just not loving it with the equally wide pants. I remember a fashion “do”: boxy on top/slim on bottom and vice versa. I’m olllllld 😊

    • Amy Too says:

They are just SO thoughtful. They never come empty handed. They always DO something. The other royals just come and look/see/pose near things. The Sussexes think about what someone or a cause or charity or school might need, realistically, something that’s not just a cute keepsake, but a useful gift, and they bring it. And in this case they brought multiple things. They have so many charitable partners that are also all about action, that they can do stuff like this. This is literally compassion in ACTION, like their motto. It’s not just compassion in passing, or compassion in thought, or performative compassion like the royals. It’s real action. They DO.

      • Lorelei says:

I’ve never been so jealous of a group of small children in my life! Harry looks SO happy. You really notice the difference when a photo of him pre-Sussexit pops up. He’s so much more relaxed and just happy. I love it 😭

@AmyToo genuine question— can anyone here remember the last time Kate showed up at an engagement with a thoughtful, much-needed gift like this? All I can think of re: her engagements is she gets out of a car, poses for some photos, then leaves as quickly as possible.

I actually think it’s very plausible that she doesn’t even know where she’s going that day until she gets into the Range Rover and some aide tells her, and gives her a page of bullet points or something. It’s so obvious how little she cares.

      • Agreatreckoning says:

        @Amy Too – +1

      • Amy Too says:

I really can’t remember Kate bringing any kind of impactful, needed gift. Maybe leaving the Hold Still book hidden around, but that’s more of a keepsake then a necessity. She’s more likely to receive gifts: flowers, jewelry. Maybe someone else can think of something she’s given?

      • BothSidesNow says:

@ Lorelei, no. KKKween knows exactly where she is going, who she is meeting and the purpose of such meeting. Though, I am certain those special enough to have a package of 6 cookies each, delivered to them in appreciation of their hard work during the pandemic last year were appreciated…

On top of having a videographer traveling with the staff to deliver each package of 6 cookies, for an entire organization were well thought of beforehand…….🙄

      • BothSidesNow says:

They are the epitome of standing behind their name and commitment. There is no worry or concern as to whether they will show up or be unprepared. In every case we have seen Harry, and especially Meghan, come prepared to give impactful, well researched and thoroughly throughout initiatives or bringing forward issues that matter!!

As for how both Harry and Meghan are being received, they are certainly appreciated and welcome to those they wish to visit. Harry and Meghan seem to always want to participate in programs whether it’s planting vegetables, a washer/dryer or delivering food for those that are unable to have access for meals. I too also admire that Harry and Meghan have joined and encouraged organizations to help spread awareness and opportunity.

I think that Harry and Meghan look absolutely fabulous in this video with all of the children hugging and being thought of that they were chosen for the visit! I think that the ease and the compassion for the children are so natural for Harry and Meghan!! They are truly compassionate and supportive in their hearts and in their souls.

Harry are Meghan are genuinely GOOD people!! The people that they meet with or interact with, can tell that Harry and Meghan are genuine!!
Plus, they look so HAPPY TOO!!!!

  2. hoopjumper says:

Truly people who bring new meaning to the phrase, “Your Grace.” Just wonderful to see them in action.

    • MMadison says:

Loved the video of the kids circling Harry for hugs and the girl (yes the girls) all getting as close as possible to Meghan. I know the Brits don’t get Meghan. I also know that Salty Island doesn’t care about children of a particular color but the rest of the world get’s Meghan and cares about all children. IMO what we will see in the future is a Meghan/Harry traveling the world touching people across the globe. The world will love them and the Brits will hate them. Meanwhile, the Brits will continue to elevate the other Duchess as she gets free Tennis lessons or a day on the water.

      • Nic919 says:

Harry was always good with kids at engagements, just as his mother was. And Meghan has that trait as well. The rest don’t and it’s why it always looks so forced.

      • Carmen says:

You should see the comments in the Daily Mail. “She hugs strange kids during a pandemic but she won’t hug her own father. She’s such a hypocrite”, yadda yadda yadda.

Dear God, who hatches these people?

      • Lorelei says:

        @Carmen, lmfao at “hatches”

And anyone who still thinks she should reach out to her father has more than a few screws loose.

  3. SuSuSusio says:

    Beautiful.

Kids can sense sincerity and compassion. The Obamas have it. The Sussexes have it.

We spend too much time parsing all the garbage thrown at them by petty, jealous people.

I’m here to celebrate how they are bringing light and positive change to so many lives.

    • Agreatreckoning says:

You’re very spot on with your warm post!

Once again they look great and from the video it looks like they brought joy and needed items for the kids. I’m willing to bet the teachers & other staff enjoyed the visit too.

  4. Moxylady says:

Omg I love them so so so much. My BFF lives in Harlem – I need to know if it was her kiddos school!

  5. Chrissyms says:

Her jacket does give me some Dorothy vibes but still she looks great lol.

    • JMoreno says:

She gave birth 3 months ago. The fact that she’s comfortable with her body to be out on the world stage says so much about Meghan. Who cares what she wears. She should be celebrated for her works…PERIOD.

    • Snappyfish says:

She looks good. So photogenic but the outfit is atrocious. The color is pretty & looks great on her is all I can say.

  6. Legalese says:

Meghan looked amazing! Of course DM already has a story criticizing how much it costs… as if being wealthy means you can’t be charitable or promote important causes! There are tons of extremely wealthy philanthropists out there, but of course only they get the heat. And why does it even matter? The taxpayers aren’t paying for it!!

I also think it’s interesting that Jessica Mulroney is in NY right now too. No way that’s a coincidence. My bets are she’s still styling Meghan – her outfits these past two days have been very Mulroney-ish (but in a good way).

    • Becks1 says:

If she is in NYC then I bet she and Meghan are at least hanging out, the long pants are very very Jessica. JM can wear some really ugly stuff on her IG but when she styles other people she does a lot better (like she styles Mindy Kaling a lot for red carpets and Mindy looks gorgeous.)

      • NewKay_ says:

This is the one thing I’m disappointed in Mégan about- if true. There’s a cost to bring anti racist sometimes it’s friendships. There’s no middle ground. Too many don’t have the privilege of just moving on.

      • Charm says:

Haa haa haa haa @NewKay etc.

Um….heres the thing: Meghan knows her friend better than you and others of your ilk do. And she will not live her life according to the dictates of you and others of your ilk.
PS: The dailyFail and its bots and minions are learning this the hard way.

      • Nic919 says:

I’m definitely not a bot, but I’m a canadian who knows what JM has done and so many of her actions since going after Sasha Exeter have been awful.

I won’t blame Meghan for it though. And if she’s still friends with her, then it’s more than JM deserves. Because when you get Barbara Kay, the National Post and the white conservative media establishment to target a woman with hints of emails that are never produced, you are a pretty despicable person.

    • Amy Too says:

I wish they’d add up the cost of the washer/dryer, garden boxes, and hygiene products for once. With a story like this, about black girl children literally crying with joy to see a Princess that looks like them, and that Princess comes bearing incredibly thoughtful gifts (large appliances! Who does that!? Meghan does that!), and reads the story she wrote about her family, and talks all about representation and why it matters, like how f-ing dense and cold hearted do you have to be to focus on the clothes and total the cost of the outfit? How many articles a day can they write about how much her clothes cost while ignoring the hugely helpful, impactful, charitable things that the Sussexes are actually doing? The uk press looks like idiots. I get it if it’s Kate and they want to talk about the clothes because that is quite literally all she does—she dresses up to get her picture taken near something and the outfit is the point—but people know that the Sussexes are doing so much and saying so much and giving so much. So to see an article that focuses only on the price of her clothing is getting so old and it just screams “we are petty, salty, and jealous! We are hating for the sake of hating!” People are seeing it happen multiple times a day in real time, seeing the disparity between what the Sussexes are doing and how the uk press is covering them, and it’s making the Sussexes’ point. The press is doing the work of showing their own a** all day long and people are watching.

      • Jan90067 says:

“I get it if it’s Kate and they want to talk about the clothes because that is quite literally all she does.”

C’mon now.. let’s be fair. We all remember when she made the kids bring a single bag of pasta during Covid to Pensioners, maskless, and when they had a cam bring a single bag of cookies to an entire embassy! The Cams “donate” things too you guys!!

Yes, this is sarcasm lol. I truly can’t think of a single time they actually DID something of value, BROUGHT something of need to anyone they’ve visited (for their extended photo-op stays of 30-45 min.).

      • Capepopsie says:

And besides, even if her outfit cost a million, she paid for it herself! It’s absolutely no ones business! 😑

      • BothSidesNow says:

@ AmyToo, unfortunately, that’s the only way that they can stir up anger, as it implies that Meghan is still living off of the British taxpayers. Driving in the cost of their home, security and Meghans clothing/jewelry, implies that she is STILL being funded! Given the conditions in Britain now with lack of products and the cutting of monthly stipend this month, which brought the bubbling Boris into diaper depths yesterday, it’s easy to cause outrage, instead of covering the purpose of the visit and the gifts that they brought and how they interacted with the children. Daily Fail would rather stir up unrealistic expenses to the British taxpayer than report a accurate and true report on their visit.

    • Lorelei says:

@Legalese, I know it’s pointless to get annoyed anymore because the rags have always done this to Meghan and always will, but it still gets to me every so often, especially when they ONLY do it to her.

The Fail used to do the outfit-cost-tallying for Kate too, before Meghan came along, but they were never as mean-spirited the way Meghan’s are. And they never included things like Kate’s engagement ring, because obviously it was paid for in freaking 1981.

With Meghan, they include in the total pieces that we’ve seen on other members of the BRF (mostly Diana) decades ago. According to the Fail, her engagement ring cost $20,000 more this week than it did last week, in yet another story about her jewelry. That she PAYS FOR HERSELF WITH MONEY SHE EARNED.

Right now this is their headline:

“Read the room! Meghan and Harry arrive to Harlem school where 94% get free meals with the duchess wearing $7.5K designer pant suit to read from her own children’s book”

The headline doesn’t even mention why they were there or what they brought, just crams in as much negativity about M as possible. Again, I know it’s on me for letting it bother me, but on some days…I don’t understand how there is a not-insignificant number of people for whom the DM is probably their only or primary news source, and they’re just soaking up this garbage every. single. day.

They are absolutely *relentless* and if Meghan wasn’t as strong as she is, god only knows what would have happened by now.

      @AmyToo: 👏👏👏👏👏

      • HannahB says:

All of this is so well stated.

It’s all of this ridiculous focus on material things that the Sussexes actually pay for themselves, combined with what happens during events with TOB and KKKate, that really grinds.

One pair highlights issues related to the event, comes prepared, keeps the focus on the people and institutions they are meeting with, and whole-heartedly attempts to foster both interest and support.

The other pair shows up and either does the point-and-look, or engages themselves in the activity the organization provides to those it supports. No real interest in the org, the people, or the issue – It’s just a photo op. That or they get to do something that they enjoy while having that photo op.

One thinks performative acts justify their continued financial support from the public. The other is self-supporting (she a millionaire before her marriage), and is outbthere trying to do the most good.

I saw the daily fail flattering coverage of KKKate’s bad take on an ivory 1980’s outfit vs. Megan’s outfits on this trip. Funny how the focus on the cost of the outfits for the one who pays for them herself.

  7. Flying Fish says:

I love the outfit, Dorothy Zbornak like or not. I love the color on her. They both look happy and engaged.

    • lucy2 says:

I love the color on her too.
What a fantastic visit and a great school to support.

      • Lorelei says:

Meghan is one of those people who I always think looks beautiful, no matter how much I might dislike what she’s wearing. I wasn’t a fan of this one (except the color— that color is great on her!!) but overall I still think she looks gorgeous. She would have to try very hard to look bad, lol.

    • bettyrose says:

It looks more Nancy Pelosi to me, but either way the outfit is perfectly appropriate for the outing, and that’s what matters.

      • Wiglet Watcher says:

The pants are Nancy, you’re right!
The top would be Dorothy Zbornak only if the sleeves were bunched up to below her elbows. I think it’s a stretch to go Golden Girls on this.

      • Jais says:

I love the color and I’m into the boxy/ purposely oversized look so it’s good to me. Looks comfy for sitting and hanging with kids.

  8. Liz version 700 says:

Madame Duchess is Gorgeous!!!!! Love love love her outfit and that amazing hair! It was so awesome to go to Harlem to read her book !!!! They looked so relaxed and happy! I also adored immediately seeing the bitter Betties loosing their mind.

  9. Becks1 says:

I love when something happens and you have to come back after the Links post, lol.

I also love that NY reporter who tweeted about it and tagged Kensington Royal. I know it wasnt meant to be snarky but……it comes off as snarky, HAHA.

And finally, I love this visit. I love that they are providing a washer and dryer to the school. That is something so practical that honestly never would have occurred to me. I love how the school kids were all over Meghan, and my favorite is the little girl who broke from the pack and ran around and hugged Harry and then all the others fell on him too.

  10. Watson says:

Dorothy is more of a lightweight poly blend satin gal. Meghans outfit looks like a cashmere wool blend. Super luxe. I want this!

  11. Christine says:

I love them so much! This is so cute and actually provides the school with things they likely desperately need. My God, you just can’t create the on fire of Harry and Meghan, they are unstoppable.

  12. Marivic says:

She’s got a pretty face. Very photogenic. But I like her more in fitted clothes. Prince Harry is handsome as usual. Love that the USA gives them so much love. The UK is drowning in bitterness and jealousy.

    • Isabella says:

I wonder if she has some post-baby stuff around the waist. I did! Or it felt like I did, so I covered up a bit more.

    • Watson says:

I like her in fitted clothes as well but can understand the thought process behind this outfit. Postpartum women have bodies that are constantly changing: some things are shrinking, others don’t seem to go away as fast (mommy belly!), your boobs are leaking, expanding and contracting depending on your breastfeeding. The cashmere cocoon was a smart choice so no one would scrutinize her body and she could be comfortable reading on those tiny chairs to kids.

      • BothSidesNow says:

@ Watson, yes!! Add to the fact that after I had my second child, my body didn’t bounce back as quickly. As long as Meghan is comfortable, that’s all I care about!!! She is stunning and gorgeous!! She looks great in everything that she wears!!! Harry looks great too, even with his suede shoes!!

    • Green Desert says:

I also think it’s postpartum dressing. So many famous women have a singular focus on getting super thin right after baby, but I’m guessing Meghan doesn’t and that she is also nursing. Personally, I dressed in more flowing things in the months after giving birth.

      • Amy Too says:

Oversized is a legitimate trend, though, too. I think part of this is Meghan moving further away from the traditional royal dress and more towards modern day women’s clothing with some elevated street style elements thrown in there. The royals seem to be very into the fitted style, maybe because it’s prim and proper and shows off the tailoring they can afford, plus fitted clothes were the style from pre-victorian through the 50s snd that’s where they’re stuck aesthetically and in every other way.

Meghan’s not a working royal, but she’s also not a politician or an office worker. She could wear literally whatever she wanted as she’s the CEO of her own organization/foundation, as such she’s always representing herself and her foundation as opposed to someone else’s institution or business, and her foundation is more about being authentic, pushing social change, and giving. As opposed to selling a product or something like that where you’re still sort of expected to dress like business woman. I think this is her legitimate style. It’s expensive looking, polished, elevated, but it’s also a little trendy, there’s room for trying things like a head to toe wine colored outfit with an oversized cozy jacket.

      • Green Desert says:

@Amy Too – great points. Yes, oversized is a trend right now and I really like it. Agreed that a person can look polished and professional in something not tailored to the body. Just saw pics of Jodie Comer at The Last Duel premiere in an oversized jacket and she looked great.

I love Meghan’s look. It’s a bit unexpected and fashionable. If this is Mulroney’s doing, it’s more proof she can style others better than herself lol.

    • FancyPants says:

I don’t think it’s a post-partum thing because she frequently wore clothes that are simply too big for her before her pregnancies too. I think the idea of this suit was perfect for this engagement and the color is beautiful, but the pants are too long and she’s absolutely swimming in that coat.

  13. Well Wisher says:

    Simply beautiful.

Onward and upward. It is gratifying to see the Sussexes continue in service to the greater good. There is a urgent need for a paradigm shift towards compassion and loving kindness.

I love the fact that she is wearing red, in the old country, we wear it to keep out the evil eye.

While most of my comments tend to emphasize Meghan and Harry’s humanity, in order to stress the continued need for fair coverage in the media. I will deviate and cite the fact that her look is superb.
Motherhood becomes her, whilst she seemingly look younger. Once more.

Simply beautiful wife and mother, and couple.

  14. Noki says:

Excuse the DM why do they care how much her clothes cost ,she can afford her own s***. Also she is not a working royal and can accept freebies from designers if she wishes, which wasnt allowed before.

    • lanne says:

because they are a bunch of nasty old racist bitches

    • Over it says:

Don’t you know black girls can’t have nice things especially if they can afford to pay for them themselves.

      • Lorelei says:

@OverIt there’s so much cognitive dissonance— the Americans who’ve jumped on board with the Fail crowd are the Trumper types, always droning on about self-sufficiency and “pulling yourself up by your bootstraps” (🙄), absolutely *loathing* people who receive any kind of welfare (as if it’s personal failure and not circumstances that put them there, and that many of us are only one paycheck away from being in the same position), then they proceed to praise Kate and denigrate Meghan.

And never even realize the irony and hypocrisy here. I know racism plays an ENORMOUS factor, but many people just spout off without even knowing wtf they’re talking about.

I really, really wish they would add critical thinking to the curriculum of every school in the US. I once heard someone who was lobbying for something along these lines be taught in schools use the term “information hygiene,” referring to distinguishing what is trustworthy online and what’s not. I thought that was such a great idea but I don’t have high hopes that it will happen. Too many people don’t WANT the masses to think critically.

      • Nev says:

        WORD.

        Thanks for saying it.
        Makes me
        Soooo UPSET. But it’s okay.
        Stay mad haters.

      • Lady D says:

I don’t think there’s much hope for this type of person, Lorelei. I mean, Sesame Street teaches critical thinking skills, (one of these things is not like the others) and they still don’t get it as functioning adults.

    • Ania says:

Because people love scrutinizing other people wallets. Someone once commented my blouse „I would never buy sth that pricey!”, and by that she meant €100. Well, then don’t. It’s my money and my choice. Or that I’m wasting money because sometimes I buy my toddler cute clothes at Zara. It’s my money, I earn it and I choose how i spend it. If I were Meghan I would also buy a mansion and those beautiful clothes. All that she what’s looks so versatile that I’m sure it’s money better spent than on tousands similar buttony messess.

    • BayTampaBay says:

The commentariat of the Daily Fail are a bunch of haters. If you go into the comment sections of articles on Kate from the last of couple of days, you will see that the “Kate Haters” are out in full force.

The only reason there are no hate comments and very few negative comments on the Lady Louise article is because that comment section was moderated.

      • Lorelei says:

I wish there wasn’t even a comment section at all for Louise. She is at an age which is SO difficult for everyone to begin with, and she’s in the public eye, not because of anything she did but simply because of who she was born to. Reading any negative comments about yourself must be awful to begin with, but at her age, just NO. It could do so much damage to a teenage girl, jfc. I remember that age well and wish they would leave her alone.

      • Tessa says:

Louise should be getting ready to go to University. She is now being pushed to be a “working royal.” It is very unlikely since Charles made it clear about his scaled down monarchy. And if she for some reason likes the idea and its all over the media, and Charles says no, that’s not good for her. Yes Louise’s comments should have been moderated. I just wonder where the DM bots come from.

  15. Fanciful says:

Wow she looks so beautiful. I love that suit. The Fail are going mad about the cost of her outfit and the suvs and the jewelry again. They are insane. Garden boxes and washer /dryer! Beautiful gifts.
The kids will cherish this memory.

  16. locamg says:

Hate the outfit (GREAT color). Golden Girls is 100% accurate. Also, dang, does Harry look good.

    • Pusspants says:

Agreed that this is not a good looking outfit on her. With that said, her hair & makeup look great.

    • Splinter says:

I agree. This oversized clothes trend needs to die a quick death. The coat is trendy but so ugly. There are other ways to style a woman who is possibly conscious about her body after giving birth.
To waste so much cloth in such a great colour to create such monstrosity is outrageous!

      • tamsin says:

        @Splinter

It’s all in the eye of the beholder.

      • Jaded says:

@Splinter — there are far worse things to vent your spleen on like food insecurity and vaccine inequity. Wasting so much cloth? How about wasting unused vaccines instead of sending them to countries in dire need. A coat is a monstrosity and outrageous? How about women not being allowed an education…how about millions being forced to flee Afghanistan…how about the trafficking of young girls? Get things in perspective.

      • Jaded says:

And I don’t think she’s “possibly conscious about her body after giving birth”. She rises above that sort of body-policing nonsense.

      • Splinter says:

        @Jaded
I see that my comment came across as a rant, possibly with a foaming mouth, when in fact I was half joking.
I applaud all the good work Meghan does in raising awareness about vaccine inequity and other charitable causes, but I am still allowed to think the designer of this coat wasted an opportunity to create something beautiful. 😉
And I honestly think she is conscious about her body, seing how she chose to position herself in her birthday video and recent choices of clothes. Which is understandable and perfectly normal, I just don’t like the red coat, that’s all.

    • Pix says:

The outfit is legit nuts but I LOVE the Golden Girls reference so much that it make me love the outfit. Doesn’t matter what Meghan wears because her good work shines.

    • Same says:

I’m so glad you said it first .

She looks AHmazing!!! Hair, skin, glow…it’s all going on and that color is fire on her. That coat belongs in a fire and I can’t believe we are pretending to love it.

  17. Jen says:

Not the kids piling on Harry! My heart.

    • Truthiness says:

That clip brought all the feels for me. Diana’s DNA is alive, it escaped the RF and made it to the Americas in a way she couldn’t. Harry fell in love hard and got a true partnership in the way Diana always wanted. Hugging people, touching their lives, helping those that are less advantaged. No clothes/body shaming, Meghan is post partum ffs, she could have worn Mrs Roper’s muumuus(sp?) justifiably in my eyes. Lulzy af doing it on Friday just when the RR have gone home and they will have been sandbagged and scooped by American press, ha!!

      • Lorelei says:

@Truthiness, this is one of the best things I’ve *ever* heard said about Harry:

“Diana’s DNA is alive, it escaped the RF and made it to the Americas in a way she couldn’t.”

I love that SO. MUCH. Amazingly perfect description (can I steal it from you? As many people as possible should read it imo!), I’m almost in tears, and I never get like that about people I don’t know, but this…😭😭

  18. Linda says:

OMG – I do admire these two so much. What a wonderful visit.
The video of Harry with the kids made me tear up a little – that’s all Diana right there. He got all her warmth and personality.

    • Tessa says:

I thought the same way. I thought of Diana right away. And I was so happy they are carrying on her work.

  19. MerryGirl says:

Love the pants suit, burgundy is her colour. Bitter tears and sour grapes from Salty Britain cannot stop my joy of seeing them out and about. Here’s a better look at the whole outfit https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FAEYT5SWQAAoiYK?format=jpg&name=medium

  20. Neners says:

This has been my favorite event they’ve done so far! Meghan is so important to these little children, to all children of color. She means so much. We saw that with her visit to the Robert Clack Upper School in Dagenham last year and we’re seeing it again now.

  21. Moxylady says:

I love that they gave such practical and thoughtful gifts. It was needed and will be used. That’s helping.

  22. Amy Bee says:

I like that they brought donations for the school. Definitely not a royal tour.

  23. Claire says:

Mahalia Jackson. Yes. If you haven’t had the opportunity to watch her singing How Great Thou Art on YT, do yourself a favor. Also, she and Satchmo, Just a Closer Walk With Thee. Back on topic. What a wonderful second day so far, expect there will be more…

  24. Mrs Meow says:

Love them! I teared up to see how the kids were excited and just what a good aura H&M have.

  25. D says:

Loving all of her monochromatic looks! If I could wear Loro Piana I would, it’s so luxurious and beautifully made.

  26. Over it says:

Absolutely beautiful couple. I love this color and outfit on her, and absolutely Kaiser, Harry is definitely a snack. Meghan is clearly well fed.lol. Yum.

  27. Keri says:

And this is the couple that people on that salty, dull rock want us to dislike. If that is not the definition of madness, I don’t know what is. We need more positive change in the world, not hate.

  28. HeatherC says:

I love the color. It’s so rich and perfect for fall.

This is how you work. You bring attention to an important subject using your name recognition and platform. Also make a tangible difference (like a washing machine and garden boxes).

This is what they do while others get free publicized tennis lessons.

  29. Stacy Dresden says:

    So sweet. I love them!

  30. Eurydice says:

So sweet and heartfelt. I could never wear those pants, but I love the Jacket and top.

  31. Lizzie says:

Okay, I hate to bring up the other D&D, but compare this to their trip to Scotland when the kids literally did not know who they were. Little boy asked Kate if she was the prince. And these kids are so excited and happy to see Meghan and Harry. LOL for days.

  32. JanetDR says:

    Love everything about this event!
The heels on Meghan’s shoes make me feel nervous though. I’m sure she’s good, but my feet, ankles, knees and hips are suffering just looking at them!

  33. Margaret says:

Can you imagine waking up each day full of hate for people you never met, never will, and they have done nothing to you?.
You only see them doing humane things for others, and the love they receive, and you find fault with them for it. But deep down you really don’t hate them for those things. You don’t want to admit the awful truthful reason why you hate HER. The commenter on the BM, carnival of so called royal experts, rota rats, and the royal welfare recipients. Please look in the mirror, that kind of hate destroys body, mind and souls, that is if you have those attributes.

    • Lorelei says:

@Margaret: nope. And I can’t imagine looking at this couple — who are clearly soulmates who took a while to find each other but finally did — and hating a single thing about them.

They fell in love, and now they want to work together to use their high profiles to draw attention to important issues that many people wouldn’t be aware of otherwise. I have absolutely no clue how someone can look at them and be disgusted.

  34. taris says:

i love him, but how do we get harry to actually start dressing like a man who’s worth £50m+? is there a petition we can sign or something?

    • Crowned Huntress says:

LOL @Taris, at the end of the day Harry is a humble soldier at heart. He’s much more comfortable in these clothes or uniform than a tux. But when he cleans up, the boy really cleans up.

  35. Crowned Huntress says:

As a New Yorker these two are definitely giving my mood a lift just to see them around my city bringing a little joy and happiness to people. They’re so thoughtful & intentional about their work & how they give back.
If more wealthy people did this (plus were actually taxed appropriately) we’d have a much kinder world.

Now I’m tempted to see if I can attend the concert just to see them.
Meghan again looks gorgeous & stunning, Harry is an absolute sweetheart & doll with children, you just can’t fake energy like theirs.

May this new era be magnificent for them & everybody they touch through their works of compassion. 💫🌈

    • Katherine says:

They’re both so genuine and it’s just delightful. I was interested in Harry even before Meghan as he seemed to be rare public figure to weather some scandal and screw ups and legitimately grow and mature. And then she came on the scene and it’s like lightning in a bottle. My favorite thing is how impressed Harry is BY her. And in any public event it’s like he’s looking around to make sure other people see how amazing she is. He’s always pushing her forward and in awe of her. And even as a working prince his whole vibe was who cares about that look at her! Just look! It’s very very very appealing in a man and cannot be taught or explained. I just find them both so captivating.

    • Lorelei says:

@Crowned Huntress, same! Yesterday and today have just felt more cheerful than it’s been in a while. Harry and Meghan are both so unbelievably likable, and you can tell by looking at them that they’re genuinely enjoying themselves. I love them so much 😭

  36. Angelica Schuyler says:

Here in NY they showed a clip of Meghan reading to the school kids on the 12pm news. You could see how happy everyone was. She and Harry have such great energy as a couple and it just spreads to anyone they interact with. I was in tears watching the clip. They’re just great. I hope they keep doing what they’re doing because they’re doing it really well. The folks on Salty Isle can kick rocks!

  37. Nyro says:

They made a surprise stop for lunch in Harlem like I hoped they would!! And they paid for everyone’s lunch, according yo someone on Twitter. They’re awesome.

    • Carmen says:

And they made a $25,000 donation to the restaurant. I lived in Harlem for 50 years and Melba’s has some fabulous eats. It’s no place to go if you’re on a diet, though. You’ll gain five pounds just reading their menu.

  38. Imoverit says:

She looks great! I love this outfit and color in her.

  39. L4frimaire says:

I love what she’s wearing but I totally get the Golden Girl reference ( my thinking was more Palm Springs matron). At first this seemed like a cute little visit, read her book, lots of hugs and take some photos. Each child got a copy of the Bench. But then, found out they donated boxes of fresh produce, and a washer dryer. They also donated personal products from P & G for the kids and their family to use. Apparently the school serves a lot of homeless and low income families and this is a big help in their ability to keep their uniforms clean, and have access to these personal care products for their families. But there is more. The school is supported by a family services agency called Graham Windham, and the Duchess is also donating reading nooks to their many locations to increase access to books. Also, Graham Windham was founded 215 years ago by Eliza Hamilton, widow of Alexander Hamilton. This is so awesome! I very impressed by this visit!

  40. sunny says:

I adore the colour and cut of this look. Very Michelle Obama. Also, what a great visit. They are their team put so much care into what they do. I am here for it.

    • cosmic_catastrophe says:

Yes, thank you Sunny, that’s exactly it – Madame Duchess’ outfit brings to mind Michelle Obama’s badass, iconic Sergio Hudson look from President Biden’s inauguration in particular. The color is smashing (and perfect for autumn) on both women.

  41. Nikki says:

I started watching Golden Girls a few weeks ago. We slept on Dorothy’s style the first time around. She was serving looks in some episodes.

Meghan isn’t in England anymore. She isn’t paying a dime for these clothes. LOL. Designers must be throwing clothing at her stylist.

  42. Katebush says:

    That’s a horrible outfit that’s for sure

  43. mariahlee says:

Love this look. Love this visit. And I also love that the kids were probably told that the author of the book they read in class (which inspired their mural) was coming to visit. Sure, she’s a princess but she’s also a writer — and that’s something they can really look up to.

Harry just seems extremely warm and likable, so it’s no wonder kids are drawn to him.

  44. Pocket Litter says:

Favorite story today. Lovely visit with school kiddos, and compassionate action. Heartwarming 💜

  45. LesRob says:

A snack. Two snacks. More snacks. They are the best.

  46. harla says:

I am once again struck by the thoughtfulness that the Sussex’s show when visiting underprivileged areas and schools. I certainly hope that today’s visit sets a precedence nay an expectation that Every royal should be reaching! I am not singling out the BRF but all royal families who are funded in luxurious lifestyles by their citizens. No royal should be showing up to engagements like this empty-handed, only to accept flowers and gifts from those they should be serving, instead they should start harnessing their connections and dipping into their extreme wealth to truly make a difference. The world is no longer enthralled by royalty, the wealth gap is growing and many, many are suffering, we need to start expecting more from those who are supposed to be living a life of service, handshakes, a few waves and pretty words are no longer enough!

    • Christine says:

      Well said.

    • Lorelei says:

@Harla, somehow it NEVER occurred to me until today how backward it is that the royals are always *given* gifts when they visit organizations instead of them being the ones to find out in advance what would be needed or helpful, just like Harry and Meghan did, and be the ones *giving* the gifts.

It is SO OBVIOUS and I can’t believe I never thought this before!! 🤯🤯

      • Agreatreckoning says:

Right. It’s like the a$$hat derangers and rota’s that probably knew and chose to lie about Harry & Meghan including links within their site for charities to donate to. Everyone else saw it but some chose to be blind to it. I haven’t looked at the Royal Foundations site for awhile-do they provide links to their patronages for people to donate to?

Kate brought honey to try at one of her events this year. That’s really going out of the royal way.GAH

The royal family accumulates wealth while some of their patronages are closing. Mind boggling.

  47. Blue says:

Proctor & Gamble test on animals. They still have not stopped this practise in their labs. They are a huge conglomerate and have the money for testing products via other more ethical means.

    • lanne says:

Then contact the company and tell them your thoughts. It’s absurd to think that Meghan and Harry should be held accountable for what a corporation does. Check the labels of your clothing. There’s a good chance, if you don’t buy haute couture or make your clothes yourself, that you are wearing something made by poorly paid women in developing nations that work in horrifying conditions. The lunch you ate likely included produce picked by children or by exploited workers. Once you start submitting people to purity tests, the indictment will come right back to you. Do better.

    • Mel says:

Check yourself and stay out of other folks business. Unless you have your own sheep or cotton plants and you harvest and make everything yourself, someone is working in sweatshop like conditions and being paid a pittance to put cloths on your back. Same thing with your cell phone, and the fruits and vegetables you eat.Check YOURSELF.

    • Robin Samuels says:

Blue, perfect name for you. Find something legitimate to gripe about. How much plastic is in your house?

    • Lorelei says:

@Blue, your comment made me think of the old saying, “ Perfect is the enemy of good.”

Most things in life require compromise. Especially in situations like this; if Meghan and Harry wanted an absolutely perfect enormous company that is 100% perfect in every way, they’d be waiting for the rest of their lives.Proctor & Gamble may have some awful practices, but EVERY large company does.

Would you rather the Sussexes just do nothing at all?

      • lanne says:

I think that’s the point. You don’t see these Purity Police analyzing the royal family. They shoot animals for fun but that’s okay, right? There’s something not quite white that I can’t point a finger at.

  48. Seraphina says:

I am in love with her outfit and the color and the shoes. Although I don’t know how she manages to walk in them. What a wonderful event – THIS is how it’s done and WHAT is done.

  49. Likeyoucare says:

If you hate her, you will find or search every little bits about this visit that seem fault and menacing about her.

If she wore cheap and stylist clothes, then you will focused on how expensive her jewellaries were.
Or she drove by gas guzzling car, private jets. Or she still have that so many toilets in her mansion that she paid for.

She is setting/following a trend by wearing these clothes. She is wearing clothes that comfortable for her and you need to focused on what she is doing not what she wears.

  50. Nev says:

Go on Duchess!!! Keep doing the
    WERK.

  51. Mel says:

I love that those kids hugged him and he hugged them back. I suppose folks across the pond will be in their feelings for days about this….

  52. Pat Gaddess says:

I also love that visit to Melba’s the famous soul food restaurant. They again mixed charity into the visit

    • Carmen says:

Melba’s is awesome. They not only have scrumptious food, they do a lot of good in the community. They had a covid vaccination drive in the restaurant and everyone who came in for their first shot received a free sweet potato pie.

    • Lorelei says:

@Pat not only would I bet my life that the Cambridges have never once done this, I think it’s probably likely that they stroll in to restaurants automatically expecting to be comped. They deigned to visit the establishment, and they likely think that’s payment enough.

(I think this is probably against the BRF’s “rules” 🙄 but William has never been too concerned about rule-following, so.)

  53. Robin Samuels says:

So instead of Prince Andrew staying at Epsteins’s house, he could have stayed in the Royal Suite at the Carlye? I’m so glad I don’t read the British tabloids, follow their social media accounts, etc. They are truly unhinged. Their cash cow is drying up. When every time you pick up a pen it’s to demonize the same person, how boring is that? You may notice that the American press has cut back drastically on the so-called Royal Reporters. Makes sense since there’s nothing relevant to report. I’m glad Meghan and Chelsea Clinton met. Hillary and Chelsea have supported her from the onset of the attacks. Gas guzzling SUVs. They’ve never been to NYC during the UNGA when SUVs and stretch limos keep 1st Avenue in a 24/7 traffic jam.
A young teacher was found murdered in the park – again, there is a serious food shortage, pending energy crisis, etc. Brexit is choking the UK and to keep the taxpayers distracted the media gripes about Harry and Meghan. One day they will wake up over there.

    • Ainsley7 says:

Andrew wasn’t on a Royal visit at the time. So, he would have had to pay for any hotel accommodations himself. He was at Epstein’s because Epstein let him stay for free. Andrew has always been easily bought with the offer of free stuff.

  54. Eulalia says:

Meg looks amazing as usual, her haters must be foaming at the mouth.

  55. Marivic says:

Comments in DFail are horrible. The tabloid doesn’t moderate the comments on Meghan and Prince Harry. It’s free for all even the ones that are most vile and obscene. They foment hate and incite violence. Very different from Kate and William articles where comments are obviously moderated and filtered to favor them. Rota rats are the worst kind and the people of the world know this. They have lost their credibility. They now know that the Meghan and Prince Harry are being mistreated and undermined. Remember what they said you can fool some people all of the time, and all people some of the time, but you can not fool all the people all the time. These rota rats are now burned.

  56. Athena says:

I love the color on her and the outfit, especially the coat could have been a loan from the designer, Meghan can do that now that she’s not a working royal. What designer won’t lend her an article of clothing knowing it will sell out.

I’m glad she did not dress down to meet the children. This is what a real life princess looks like, this is what a woman who went to university, worked hard and earned millions looks like. It would have been insulting to the children for her to show up in jeans and T-shirt.

  57. MY3CENTS says:

Wow these two are just amazing.
They’re proving just how outdated and irrelevant the British Monarchy is. They are self supporting and doing all this great work will not being supported by any taxpayer moneys, while over on salty isle taxpayers are paying for TOB hanging out with footballers and Keenot getting tennis lessons.
I can see why their success is a threat to the Monarchy.

  58. Melly says:

Shallow comment here – hair, makeup all
On point Megs is a babe. Love the trousers and shoes and the really loving the bling understated but opulent. Haters can suck on it! Hate the jacket style but love the color.

Now to substance, what a thoughtful visit for a wonderful cause. Megs and Harry are truly an authentic couple and inspire this 50 year old woman. Brava!

  59. Lorelei says:

@Jennifer Anderson, we do not want any negative energy during what has been such a great week.

    Nice try, though.

  60. JaneBee87 says:

So much love for these two amazing people. They make the world a better place.

  61. Merricat says:

They are practical and thoughtful in their gift-giving, and they don’t bring along a photographer. NYC loves Meghan and Harry, and you know that if they can make it there,…
How lucky we are that Meghan came home and brought her husband and child with her–how lucky for us that they are now free to do the work they love.
Jealousy and spite caused the loss of Britain’s best natural resource. Now they have nothing but sporto and window dressing. Not worth the tax tab.

    • Eurydice says:

It’s the layers of thought that really impress me. Meghan reads a book to school children, but H&M also think about what the school, the children and the community need – and then they provide it. They have a meal in a restaurant that helped vaccinate the community, but also donate money to help keep the restaurant going. H&M are celebrities, but they’re not relying only on their celebrity status to bring attention to a cause, they’re also providing concrete help.

  62. Zoochy says:

This is amazing and kudos to H&M for their thoughtfulness. Those kids will remember their encounter forever.

Also, if they can afford to donate *a washer and dryer* to a school, Meghan can wear what she pleases no matter the cost.

  63. TQ says:

The pictures of this event and the kids’ group hugs of H & M just give me all the feels. So heartfelt. They are just amazing and I am in awe.

And I laughed today that the Daily Fail headline said Meghan at this event was ‘cosplaying’ Michelle Obama, with the side by side pic from the inauguration. Not only is that ridiculous, but I honestly wondered if the Fail writers/grey men in suits were responding to @Kaiser’s many cosplay criticisms of Keen on this site?!! Surely it can’t be a coincidence in the language? Since when is the Fail using the term ‘cosplay’? Fail readers don’t know WTF that means. Someone somewhere had talking points on that ish.

  64. Melly says:

Madame Duchess Megs and Harry met the UN Secretary-General. Meltdown on Shutter Island!!!!

    • L4frimaire says:

Deputy Secretary General but still amazing! This trip has been so impressive and looking/forward to the results it yields.

  65. Jaded says:

“Harlem appropriate”?! I agree with Lorelei…sneaking in a derisive comment is not appropriate.

  66. Carmen says:

@Jennifer Anderson: have you ever even been to Harlem? I thought not.
