“It is not clear when we will see the end of this wave. This is concerning for us, and we believe it is not certain if we have reached the peak,” said Alireza Raisi, spokesperson of the National Covid-19 Task Force, regarding the fifth wave on Sunday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

While vaccination began in January in most countries, spokesperson of the regime’s Red Crescent made startling remarks on this topic on Sunday. “We did not have a permit to import vaccines until late March. We still don’t have permits to import coronavirus medicine from Australia,” he added, according to state TV.

“Around 18 tons of basic ingredients needed for Covid-19 medicines are held in limbo in customs,” said the deputy of Iran’s Customs on Sunday, according to the semi-official ILNA news agency.

“Friday was the strangest day in Beheshte Zahra Cemetery, and we had a new record daily death toll for the capital. There were 216 coronavirus deaths on Friday and 390 deaths in total on Friday, setting a new record in the 51 years this cemetery has existed,” according to a Sunday report wired by the Fars news agency, an outlet linked to the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC).

“The fifth wave is wreaking havoc in the city of Quchan. The hospital is reaching its capacity limit. Households everywhere are in grief and there is a stench of death in the city,” according to a Sunday report wired by the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“3253 coronavirus patients are hospitalized across [Isfahan] province, of which 432 are in ICUs. During the past 24 hours we have lost 33 patients to coronavirus,” said the spokesperson of Isfahan Medical Sciences University on Sunday, according to the state-run IMNA news agency.

“We have requested more manpower from the Medical Sciences University, but there are no nurses available. There is no space to hospitalize more patients. The emergency branch is already at twice its capacity with 50 patients. The CCU branch, which was used for heart illness patients, has been transformed into an ICU branch for coronavirus patients,” said the head of the Manzarieh 9 Day Hospital on Sunday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

In Ardabil province the number of new cases and those hospitalized has increased seven-fold in comparison to last month, and the virus spread is continuing at an even faster rate, according to a Sunday report wired by the regime's official IRNA news agency. During the past 24 hours this province has lost 17 patients to Covid-19 and 180 new patients have been hospitalized, the report adds.

“The country’s north can be registered as a black zone when it comes to coronavirus. This is especially true for Goelstan province, which can no longer be considered a red zone and is now a black zone. There is no more room in the hospitals, and we are facing shortages in medicines and IV fluids,” said a member of the regime’s Majlis (parliament) from this province on Sunday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“During the past 24 hours we have lost 28 patients to coronavirus and the total coronavirus death count in [Alborz] province stands at 5046,” said the dean of Alborz Medical Sciences University on Sunday, according to the regime’s official IRIB news agency.

Today’s edition of the state-run Resalat daily ran a piece referring to escalating public hatred of regime Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei due to the expanding coronavirus crisis. “The enemies and anti-revolution forces” consider Khamenei responsible for the coronavirus casualties. This is a “conspiracy, and it can become dangerous if it expands… All our officials, decision makers, and the media need to confront this wave,” the article reads.

The state-run Hamdeli daily also wrote: “At a time when the coronavirus virus death rate has reached the horrifying number of eight percent, and the daily death toll continues to set new records, our security institutions are forecasting that at least in the next four weeks the death toll—as a result of Muharram religious ceremonies and people flooding the public transportation system, such as the metro—the country will be plunged into a security crisis.”
