CLEARWATER, Fla. — A 17-month-old child has been hospitalized after a crash in Clearwater Thursday evening, police say.
Her stepfather was arrested on charges of neglect of a child with great bodily harm and having no valid driver's license.
Clearwater police say, Dontrell Stanley, 35, had his stepdaughter in his lap while riding his motorcycle near Engman Street and Roosevelt Avenue just after 5 p.m.
Investigators say Stanley ran a stop sign, saw he was about to crash into a car, and then laid down his motorcycle which propelled the baby underneath the car.
The girl was taken to All Children's Hospital where she is in critical but stable condition, police say.
Her stepfather was taken to a separate hospital to be "medically checked out."
He was booked into the Pinellas County jail early Friday morning.
