Help me give my students access to our school library books during distance learning by providing them with a "no contact" book return box, thus allowing us to circulate books via drive up book checkout and return.
I have the privilege of being the librarian to a middle school community of over 1,300 students that are ethically, economically, and linguistically diverse.
Each one of our amazing students is a reader, and with distance learning in our future, we need help to get the books into our student's hands.
Our students are kind, smart and creative, and before Covid-19, our students loved hanging out in our library researching, reading, and checking out books. We want to make sure our students continue to have access to quality literature by having a "no contact" drive up library book check out and drop off.
My Project
Due to Covid-19, our school is closed and students will be starting the year with distance learning. However, our students still need books! As the librarian, I want to provide dive up "no contact" book checkout and return. In order for our drive up book checkout to be effective and follow health guidelines, we need a mobile book return box for "no contact" book returns.
With a proper book return box, we can get books to and from students and make it possible for them to continue to grow as readers while distance learning.
Once schools are open again, the box will continue to be useful, as it will allow students to return books during times that the library is unavailable. There is nothing quite like a physical book to hold, read, and enjoy, and our students deserve safe access to our books so they can continue to grow, learn and strengthen their literacy skills.
