A couple years ago, I held a fun contest in which members of PokeBeach decided what PokeBeach's Favorite Pokemon was. (It was Gengar.) Many people have come and gone since then, and I think it would be fun to play this game again. Here's how you play:
1. Make a post with a numbered list of 30 Pokemon you wish to be entered into the competition.
2. Talk about who you'd like to win, fan favorites, surprise upsets, anything you want, really - just keep it related to the contest.
3. After deadline, I will compile the top 32 (64 if we really get that much support, but expect 32) Pokemon entries and randomly assign them to a bracket.
4. Each week, voting will take place for that bracket. You, fair user, will cast a secret ballot for each entry.
5. At the end of each week, the results of the votes is posted, and the next week's voting begins.
This continues until only one Pokemon remains. Simple, no? Now allow me to field some of the inevitable questions:
Q. Are there any Pokemon I can't choose?
A. No. You may nominate any Pokemon, including Spiky-eared Pichu, Ash-Greninja, even Magearna, if you so desire.
Q. Can I nominate the same Pokemon (i.e. Weedle) twice?
A. No.
Q. Can I nominate a Mega Pokemon, like Mega Absol instead of Absol?
A. Yes.
Q. Can I nominate both a Pokemon and its Mega Evolution (i.e. both Charizard and Mega Charizard X)?
A. Yes.
Q. Can I nominate two or more of a Pokemon's Formes (i.e. Deoxys Defense Forme and Deoxys Speed Forme)?
A. Yes.
Q. Can I nominate two or more of a Pokemon's Forms (i.e. Sawsbuck Winter Form and Sawsbuck Spring Form)?
A. Yes.
Q. Can I nominate a Pokemon's specific gender (i.e. female or male Meowstic)?
A. Yes, but only if there are drastic changes between sexes (like Meowstic).
Q. Can I nominate two Pokemon from the same evolution line (i.e. Bellossom and Vileplume or Squirtle and Blastoise)?
A. Yes.
Q. Can I nominate a shiny Pokemon over its standard color (i.e. shiny Mega Gardevoir over Mega Gardevoir)?
A. No.
Follow-up question: Why not?
A. Put simply, to prevent further diluting of the pool of choices. The intent is to choose Pokemon designs you like, and while the color certainly influences your decision (I know there are plenty of Pokemon I love whose shiny colors I hate), it's only a minor part of the design aspect.
Q. Can I change my mind later?
A. Yes. You can change your mind up until the deadline. Just edit your post accordingly. If you edit it past deadline, though, I'll have no choice but to throw your submission out.
Q. Is there a limit to how many Pokemon from each generation I can nominate?
A. No.
Q. Does the order of Pokemon matter (i.e. will a Pokemon I put as #1 receive a stronger vote than the one I list as #30)?
A. No. Numbering the list is just so both of us know you've chosen thirty Pokemon.
Q. Do I have to nominate 30 Pokemon?
A. Yes. There are hundreds of Pokemon; it won't kill you to pick 30 whose designs you don't hate.
Q. Why are the votes secret?
A. The voting is secret so as to allow users to truly vote for their favorites, and not just the Pokemon who's winning/losing.
Q. When is the deadline?
A. April 11, 2016, at 12 PM CST.
If there are any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
