High Ability Coordinators - March Affinity Group Meeting

High Ability Coordinators are invited to attend our in-person Regional HA Coordinator affinity group. The morning session will be focused on directed learning determined by the needs of the group in our monthly virtual chats. During the afternoon, participants will network and collaborate to process and share about information shared in the morning session. Please come ready to share ideas and build relationships with coordinators in your region!

This month's workshop will focus on social and emotional needs of high ability learners. Bring your counselors or administrators to help support this work in your district.

DESCRIPTION: This workshop will explore the unique social and emotional needs of high ability students throughout differing stages of development. As high ability students often develop asynchronously, how we teach, counsel, parent, and support these students is inherently different than their same age peers. Finding the right balance of challenge in life and school is key. One way to ensure students are remaining challenged through high school is accessing and using College Board’s AP potential data. This data can assist in aligning rigorous course offerings with student strengths and empowering students to pursue these courses once offered. We will also look at BigFuture as a tool that allows students to explore careers, be matched with scholarship opportunities, and begin planning for their next steps after high school.

PRESENTER: Whitney Coake, College Board (former IDOE High Ability Specialist)

REGISTRATION FEE: $15

LUNCH: Will be provided
