For some unknown reason, I am suddenly unable to open up
User Accounts within Control Panel. I am the
Administrator, and there are two other users. Any
thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you.

Any error message? What is the behavior you're experiencing?

No error message. Upon clicking on User Accounts, nothing
at all occurs. Thanks.

I would suggest you try running your Antivirus software and scanning your system. Boot to Safe Mode if necessary to ensure that any virus is not being executed.

Thank you for your interest - quite appreciated.
1. No infections.
2. After running Spybot, I did delete DSOExploit &
CoolWWWSearch, but this did not fix the problem either.
3. Someone suggested the following:
"Try this:
1. Click Start
2. Select Search
3. Perform a search for the file, mshta.exe
4. Once located, copy and paste the file into the
C:\WINDOWS\system32 directory (for Windows XP)."
I don't know what this means, but search could not locate
either mshta or mshta.exe.
5. Is it possibly a (fixable) registry problem?
Thanks again.

Marv,

The backup copy of the MSHTA.EXE file is stored in Windows\System32\dllcache

You can replace this file from the command line. Click Start, Run and enter

COPY C:\Windows\System32\dllcache\mshta.exe C:\Windows\System32

Thanks again. I received the following: "Windows cannot
find 'COPY'..." Also, someone suggested I click Start,
click Run, and type sfc/scannow. I received the
following: "Windows cannot find 'sfc/scannow'...". Do you
know what the failure of finding these two indicate?
Thanks again.

Thanks yet again. I received the following: "Windows
cannot find 'COPY'..." again. I was able
to "sfc /scannow", but I am still unable to access User
Accounts.

"expand X:\i386\mshta.ex_ c:\windows\system32\mshta.exe"
worked! Thanks very much for your efforts.
