Stevenson Middle School Elective Course Selection Requests - Incoming 2024-2025 6th Graders

With your parent/guardian, please complete the survey below to select your elective classes for next school year. You will have two elective periods, a general elective class and a physical education class. Be aware that classes do occasionally fill up and if this occurs for a class that you have selected, you will be placed in your 2nd or 3rd choice. Deadline - June 5, 2024 - Complete as soon as possible!

Art - This is a course that teaches the elements of art and principles of design. Students will experiment with various mediums to create two and three dimensional projects.

Beginning Band - This course that teaches the techniques of playing instruments. Tonal quality and technical facility are developed as well as proper breathing, tone control, and reading skills.

Media Team - This course teaches students how to produce, edit and write videos and music for a variety of purposes and audiences. Students will integrate productivity tools such as computers, cameras and special effects programs when creating video technology products.

Technology Applications - Students will explore technology applications to communicate, collaborate, research, innovate, critically think and problem solve. Some projects will include producing podcasts, publishing flyers, developing and building websites using basic HTML & CSS coding as well as other technology operations and concepts.

Exploring Sci/Robotics - This course is designed to encourage students to create accessible innovative programs that build teamwork skills, self-confidence, knowledge and life skills while motivating middle school students to pursue opportunities in science, technology, and engineering.

Theater Arts - This is a course in which students will develop the students’ expressive use of the body, voice, and self-expression. Students will learn acting concepts and skills. They will learn to analyze and interpret scripts and characters.

Science Enrich/Horticulture - Students will explore plant biology, botany, plant diagnostics, propagation and about soils. They will also explore green spaces and structures and the role they have in our world today. Students will have the opportunity to explore STEM careers. Projects will include opportunities to showcase to industry leaders in our community.

Choir - Students will sing and perform a variety of music in both formal and informal situations. Students will develop vocal technique and musicianship.

Magnet Spec/Humanities - Students will explore humanities in conjunction with STEM elements with project-based learning. Projects will include 3-D models, graphic design, research cultural celebrations and awareness issues. Other topics of exploration will be the tiny home movement, mobile businesses, construction of stress relief products, water works, and competing in STEM Games (build and race propeller race car and hydraulic robots).

Dance - This course explores the elements of dance. Students will learn to preform several types of dance.
