As shared in our latest YouTube video , the most stressful piece in our kitchen is our flush-mount sink.
"Flushed. Not top. Not bottom." -- words that echoed to all our vendors, from the carpenters to the sintered stone makers.
For whatever reasons, flush-mount sinks are super rare in Singapore.
Over months, we searched high and low and finally found our perfect sink and our perfect vendor, Bacera, who was able to help indent and ship the sink over from Germany.
Here are our criteria for our sink and how the Blanco Dalago 8-F ticked all our boxes:
✅️ Flush mount, by design and intent
✅️ Ledge for faucet and soap dispenser (this is super important to us)
✅️ Curved cornerings (no sharp 90 degree angles where food waste gets stuck)
✅️ Granite composite (we didn't have a good experience with stainless steel which often gets grimy and gives off a sour metallic smell)
✅️ Wide 80 cm, a good enough size to wash a wok
✅️ Single-bowl (no divider)
✅️ Within our budget 😅
We didn't want a bottom(aka under) mount sink because from our rental experience:
❌️ Intense mould growth in the dark crevices in between countertop and sink
❌️ Using the countertop faucet makes the countertop area very wet
And for a top-mount sink:
❌️ Water, oil and debris gather at the silicon edges
❌️ Mould growth on the silicon edges
❌️ Not possible to swipe liquid and crumbs directly into the sink
After we posted our YouTube video, dozens of our followers have reached out to enquire about our flush-mount sink so we decided to compile a list of Q&A here for those who may be interested!
💭 Q1. How did you manage to find this flush-mount sink?
We researched thoroughly and the Dalago 8-F met all our criteria (e.g. ledge, curved cornerings to prevent waste accumulation). We reached out to Blanco but they were not able to help and only gave us a list of local distributors for us to enquire. We emailed every single one of them and half of them didn't reply, many said they couldn't indent, and only a handful managed to quote us for the Dalago 8-F and accessories. Bacera's service response was one of the quickest and gave us a competitive pricing so we went ahead with Bacera.
💭 Q2. How long does it take to ship?
⚠️IMPORTANT: Per Bacera, this sink takes around 5 to 6 months to arrive from Germany so it may not be suitable for those who are looking for one ASAP. This is more suitable for those who are planning their reno ahead of time. For us, it took 4 months (we ordered end-May 2022 and it was ready for delivery to our BTO early-Sep 2022).
💭 Q3. What are the dimensions of the sink?
There are different sizes available, and the size is reflected in the naming convention of the product. For example, ours is the Dalago 8-F which means it is 80cm. There is a Dalago 5-F which means 50cm and 6-F which means 60cm. Remember to do space planning prior to purchasing your sink.
💭 Q4. Is there a difference between Dalago 8 and Dalago 8-F?
Yes, per Blanco's naming convention, the -F at the back stands for Flush-Mount. There is also -U, which stands for Under-Mount. If there is no alphabet at the back, it is likely to be the normal Top-Mount version. Only the -F versions are able to be flush-mounted.
💭 Q5. Is there a silicon around the sink? Won't it turn mouldy?
Yes, there is a tiny ~2mm gap around the borders so that you can cram transparent silicon in. As the sink and counter is completely flat, it is likely to dry easier as water will not gather like how it would for a top-mount sink, which means lower mould intensity.
💭 Q6. Where do I find the model number and colours available?
Blanco's official website. Remember to research first online and tell Bacera the exact model number you want. You can select the colours on Blanco website to see the item number on screen. For example, our Dalago 8-F Coffee colour is Item No. 516645, the Carena-S Vario Pull-Mixer Coffee colour is 521378 and the Lato Soap Dispenser Coffee colour is 525815 .
