One of the main highlights of the Otabi Festival in Komatsu City is the grand line-up of hikiyama floats in the city center.
Each of these hikiyama are owned by a neighbourhood of Komatsu, and during the festival each year, the residents of these neighbourhoods come together to pull the towering floats to the assembly point.
These year, we invite members of the public to join in this lively procession and have an intimate experience of the festival behind-the-scenes!
This will take place on:
Date: 10th May (Sat) Time: 12:10 - 1:45PM
(actual experience duration depends on allocation)
*Sign-up by 25 Apr (Fri)Meeting Point: Komatsu Station West Exit
(Otabi Festival Information Tent)
*In the event of overwhelming volume of sign-ups, participants will be selected via lottery.
*Note that the neighborhoods are offering this more as a cultural experience than volunteer recruitment, hence you may be asked to pull the hikiyama for only a short distance. Nevertheless, we hope you can enjoy this chance to mingle and experience the festival up close!
*The locals you will be joining may not speak English.
*On the day of the event, we kindly ask that you come dressed in comfortable clothing and shoes, as the activity involves significant physical exertion. Additionally, please be aware that we will not be able to store any valuable items during the activity.
NOT RECOMMENDED FOR CHILDREN UNDER 6 YEARS
