Tift County Kids Compete in Annual Fall Livestock Show
Tift County 4-H & FFA Holds Fall Livestock Show
TIFTON, GA – Moving down on the farm in Tifton, where 4-H and FFA exhibitors stepped out of the barn and into the arena, showcasing the best in agriculture over the weekend.
Meteorologist Matthew Crumley takes us to where all of the action took place…
“This is my first year showing, and this is my first year getting a win… a belt buckle,” said Henry Cawley, a first-year livestock exhibitor.
From cattle… to chickens… to rabbits… to lambs and goats… and, yes, market hogs… the Tift County livestock barn was busy filled with excitement.
Exhibitors were judged for the quality of their animals and their showmanship skills.
Senior Reese Tompkins, a chicken exhibitor, said chickens are his passion and explained what a judge looks for in competition fowl.
“So, most of the time the judge is only looking for breed standards. The healthiness and cleanliness of the animal,” said Tompkins.
While winning in livestock shows earns many awards, the lessons learned can last a lifetime.
