GRADES 7-8 SUMMER LEARNING AND ENRICHMENT

Program Information

Sycamore Community Schools’ 7-8 Summer Learning and Enrichment  begins on June 14 and concludes on July 9. There will be no class on July 5. Classes will be held at Sycamore Junior High School.

Enrolling a Student

Enrollment must be completed online.  “Final Forms” will be utilized for emergency information.  If Final Forms is not up-to-date, parents must print out, complete, and return the Emergency Medical Authorization Form.  

Transportation

Transportation is available for “Summer Learning and Enrichment”.  Students who need transportation to Summer Learning and Enrichment must complete and submit the “Online Summer School Transportation Request” form by May 28.  Please be aware that those requesting transportation are committing to riding the bus. K-12 students may ride the same bus.

Advanced Mathematics and Problem Solving (Virtual)

This summer program is designed to challenge and enrich students entering 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Honors and Accelerated math classes.  We will explore the power topics through problem solving, group work and math competitions.  The students will  explore number theory, probability, logic problems, mental math, all while having fun with higher order critical thinking.   ($250)

Advanced Writing Workshop (Virtual)

This course is an introduction to the art of creative writing and publishing.  Class participants will read, write, and revise pieces in a number of genres including personal essays, short stories, poetry, plays, journaling, etc.  The central focus of the class will be on various processes for creating, using texts as inspiration and models, and learning from feedback to guide our writing.  ($250)

English to Speakers of Other Languages (In Person)

This course is intended for beginning/emerging English learners who are in ESOL ELA I courses. Emphasis will be placed on the acquisition of content area vocabulary as well as improving receptive and expressive English language skills. Registration for this class will occur online.  All students currently enrolled in ESOL will receive additional information about the summer offering from their ESOL teacher.        ($0)

Mathematics Exploration (In Person) 

This course is designed to help review and brush up on math concepts such as fractions, decimals, and integers while gaining math confidence. ($0)

This course will focus on the development of reading, writing, and vocabulary skills. ($0)

Bridge to Accelerated Math (Virtual) (by invitation only)

This summer math program is designed for newly-qualifying students entering single accelerated and double accelerated math. This course will focus on teaching the critical standards students will “jump over” to enter the accelerated math program. Students will receive individual instruction as needed and time management support.  It is required that all aspects of the assignment are completed at a minimum of 80% mastery level to enter the new math program for the 2021-2022 school year. By ensuring newly qualifying students have the basis of mathematics required, their mathematical success and confidence will be more likely. Contact:
