Sgt. Maj. Earle C. Harmon, Jr., U.S.A., Ret.

Sgt. Maj. Earle C. Harmon, Jr., U.S.A., Ret., age 92, died March 7, 2022.

The Hampton County, SC native lived as a child in Franklin, NC where he was a member of the Franklin United Methodist Church and was a 1948 graduate of Franklin High School.  Earle attended the Maritime School in St. Petersburg, FL and shipped out with City Service Oil Co. to North, South, and Central America.  He attended Cecil Business College in Asheville, NC for one year before being drafted into the United States Army in 1951.  Earle served thirty-four months in the Korean War Campaign with the 728th MP Battalion with duty in the 51st CID, as well as, two tours in Viet Nam with the 18th Engineering Brigade.  He served tours in France, Germany, Hawaii and various other U.S. Posts, and had many assignments in the U.S. Army recruiting command.  Later, Earle attended St. Leo College, St. Petersburg, FL and obtained a degree in Liberal Arts and Criminal Justice.

Surviving are his wife, JoAnn E. Harmon of Savannah; sons, Steven L. Harmon of Savannah, Michael N. Harmon (Bobbette), and Ronald L. Harmon, all of Brunswick; daughter, Ramona M. Harmon of Greenville, SC; stepson, Rick Groover of Savannah; stepdaughter, Brenda Kessler (Tommy) of Richmond Hill; granddaughters, Nicole Waters (Cole) and Hannah Harmon, both of Brunswick; and grandson, Christopher E. Harmon of Savannah.

Earle’s passions included his family, friends, and his fur family, Sassi, who crossed over the rainbow bridge, and his best bud, Charlie.

Graveside Service will be held at 2 pm on Sunday March 13, 2022, in Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park.
