Hello Leila,
Delve Fonts is ringing in the new year with a gorgeous new script! We are proud to debut Quita by master calligrapher Xandra Y. Zamora. Her portfolio is sprinkled with Hollywood stardust: she’s created works for luminaries like Oprah Winfrey and Tom Hanks, and her calligraphy even appeared in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest. Scroll down to treat yourself to Quita, or head straight to our website.
Plan to be in the San Francisco Bay Area tonight? Let’s celebrate 2019, Quita, and more in person! Head to the MAKE: DESIGN15 party at the Museum of Craft & Design (MCD), where Delve Fonts will help launch a year of events honoring MCD’s 15th anniversary. Grab some DF swag, then help us build a font live at the event — you could win a $100 DelveFonts.com gift certificate! Feeling shy? An on-site happy hour wrapping the In/Visible Talks conference will help shed your creative inhibitions. ;)
There is much to celebrate! Thank you for letting us into your inbox in 2019.
Happy New Year,
Delve & Dave

DF × System Fonts:
Quita and Baskerville

We discussed readability in our October newsletter, but sometimes a design is better served by an expressive typeface than one that merely delivers a quick read. We love Quita for short-form copy that needs flare — think poetry, or the text of an invitation. For headers, try Baskerville Regular (Mac OS) / Baskerville Old Face (Windows). As a transitional face, Baskerville has a verticality that contrasts nicely with Quita’s right-leaning stress, but overall its letterforms aren’t jarringly mechanical. •!•

Connect with better script settings

Typesetting a connected script is about understanding defaults: savvy type designers build in metrics so that letters merge cleanly. Start with kerning set to “metrics” and tracking set to zero. Since some apps override vertical metrics, increase leading if ascenders and descenders are colliding. •!•
