Calumet and Stong Colleges are currently recruiting Course Representatives for select courses within the Faculty of Health for Fall/Winter 2019/20.

Course Representatives (CRs) are students enrolled in the courses listed below in the Faculty of Health who support the transition and development of their peers through classroom announcements, organizing study groups and soliciting feedback from students regarding the course experience.

Classroom announcements occur every week, are 2-3 minutes in length and where possible, incorporate multiple choice questions to encourage participation. Online groups are used to organize non-facilitated study groups and provide an outlet for students to voice their feedback.

Please note that you must be enrolled in one or more of the following courses in Fall/Winter 2019 to qualify:

Important and Mandatory Training Dates:

- Interviews will be held on August 27th from 9:30-11:00 am and/or 12:00-1:30 pm (Location TBA).

- Course Representative Training held on August 29th, 2019 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. (Location TBA)

- Foundational Peer Leader Training (FPLT) will be held on September 22nd, 2019 (time and location TBA).



Training & Professional Development Opportunities – Strongly Encouraged:

- Advanced Peer Leader Training (APLT) on (Time and date TBD)

How will you benefit?
• Students will develop their leadership skills on theory, hands-on activities and experiential learning at FPLT, program-specific skills training, and weekly/bi-weekly meetings with the Course Representative Program Coordinator
• Students will have the opportunity to improve advanced leadership skills at the Advanced Peer Leader Training (APLT) events throughout the year.
• Students will be awarded a certificate/award if they meet the demands of their positions/roles
• Students will be recognized at the Faculty of Health & Colleges Award Ceremony in June 2020 if they meet the demands of their position/roles
• Students will become competitive for Leadership-based awards at the university level, Faculty of Health and Colleges level (e.g. Robert Tiffin Student Leadership Award, Silver Medal for Leadership, Student Leadership Certificates/Awards, CC Master/SC Master Outstanding Student Leadership Award specific for each program: PT, PM, CR, H&W, PE etc.)
• Students will strengthen their CV/Resume, making them more competitive for professional schools, graduate schools, jobs and volunteer positions.
• Students will develop awareness of what a responsible citizen is and have the opportunity to positively impact others
• Students will build their social and professional/career network
• Students will develop independent and critical thinking, communication skills, etc.

The Responsibilities of Course Representatives are to:
• Complete Calumet & Stong Colleges Foundational Peer Leadership Training (FPLT)
• Use PowerPoint slides to make brief oral announcements in class
• Host a online group for the course where students can ask questions, provide feedback about the course and connect to form study groups.
• Organize and schedule non-facilitated study sessions for students enrolled in their respective courses who are interested in studying in groups with their peers.
• Solicit feedback from students about strengths and challenges they face throughout the course.
• Organizing meetings with their respective course director/instructor to convey strengths and challenges that students are facing, and discuss strategies to enhance the student experience in that course.
• Track participation in the Course Representative Program, including but not limited to, classroom announcements, online groups, and study groups
• Attend mandatory meetings with the Course Representative Program Coordinator on a weekly basis
• Contribute to enhancing and strengthening the Course Representative Program through promotions (e.g. social media, posters)
• Participate in Calumet & Stong Colleges feedback surveys
• Sign and respect the Calumet & Stong Colleges confidentiality agreement regarding all information relating to students
• Assist in recruiting and interviewing Course Representatives for the following academic term(s)
• Assist in training new Course Representatives for the following academic term(s)
• Hours committed per week: 2-4 hours/week.
