Who is this for?
Leaders & teams in the spaces of communication, teamwork-facilitation, education, or training who want to increase safety, morale, and camaraderie within and across teams, but are noticing direct or indirect conflicts in communication or decision-making between team members, leaders, and/or other teams that take time to resolve, or are still not resolved, holding things back or even causing disasters.
Solving these conflicts will
- Increase productivity by shifting several hours of time spent each week from unnecessary meetings & unproductive debates instead to more valuable activities
- Create more comfort for team members to express their ideas, revealing the hidden value these ideas potentially save and create for the business
- Raise morale within teams, because of the greater understanding and trust, increasing focus, quality of work, and productivity
- Increase camaraderie between team members and teams, reducing unnecessary friction in communication & work, and increasing coordination efficiency and adaptability
What’s the solution?
CNC (Core Needs Communication) is a way of thinking and speaking—a language—designed to create mutual understanding, connection, and growth in every conversation and relationship
How it works
- For example, in a business meeting, there are people with different levels of authority and areas of expertise & familiarity, but not everyone is always expressing their thoughts and ideas comfortably, due to fears of upsetting someone, being rejected or punished, “stirring the pot”, or even frustrations about past situations. All of these hold back the people, the team, and thus the company in ways such as “silent quitting”, passive-aggressiveness, refusal to work together, and more. But, this can be changed with CNC:
- If someone has a thought or idea to share, but fear or frustration is holding them back from sharing it comfortably, then
- Another person can speak CNC with them, to quickly understand their perspective and connect with them, so they can be comfortable enough to openly share their feedback or idea
- They can speak CNC with themselves, to quickly recognize how they’re feeling, why they’re feeling that way, what they need to feel comfortable, and what they can do to get it, all potentially in a short period of time and even all on their own
- If two or more people are directly or indirectly disagreeing about any topic, thus holding back the efficiency of the discussion or teamwork, then
- A 3rd person who’s familiar enough with CNC can mediate and help surface the underlying differences of opinion and positive intentions, focusing on the higher-level goals, leading to each person being heard, getting understanding, being open to changing their opinion as long as their intention is fulfilled, and feeling comfortable moving forward with the team’s goal
- Someone in the disagreement can speak CNC with themselves to be conscious of their own feelings and needs in the moment, come up with a strategy to create more comfort in the conversation for all parties, and redirect the focus towards people’s positive intentions, and achieving the team’s goal
