A room parent is the liaison between the teacher and the parents of the classroom. It's an opportunity to make connections with the parents and students of the room, and to stay in touch with everything happening in your child's classroom. You will be reporting to your Grade Level Coordinator who will be in charge of all the communication for your grade level. They will keep you up to date of information to disseminate to parents and plans for all activities such as holiday parties, camp fire reading week, and the grade level music program.
Below will be your main responsibilities:
- Communicate with all of the parents of the classroom via email, text, and phone
- Meet with your teacher at the beginning of the year to find out their plan, and what they may need/want to help them during the year
- Help organize and facilitate the class events/parties
- Recruit other parent volunteers
- Organize gifts, supplies donations, and teacher birthday celebration
- Organize and help decorate for grade level music program
IMPORTANT NOTE: This is not a full time job! This is an opportunity to collaborate with the parents from your class, as well as your fellow room parents, and your Grade Level Coordinator. Utilize as much help as you can muster up from the parents of your classroom. Also, in order to volunteer, you will need to complete a background check through FBISD. These expire at the end of June each year.
