If you're looking for a book to get you started with access then this is it.

Before I picked up this book I had no real knowledge of how to do anything with access and couldn't get my head around it. This helped no end and continues to do so, even now when i'm earning a living with access. Whilst it misses some key areas out in any reasonable detail. You really should get this and learn it as step 1. There are many steps still to take however this will get you going.

This book got me over my "blind spot" where Access was concerned. It is very carefully and very thoroughly structured. It comes with a CD of ready made databases and exercises which use them.
You will need separate books to generate online interactive databases, and to get to grips with VBA coding, but FIRST, before attempting to run, let this book walk you through the basics.
For Access Beginners, an excellent, patient, careful teacher. Buy it.

I didn't like this book at all and it is now asigned to collect dust on my shelf. I've since bought Access for Dummies which I found much easier and more logical to follow. Accsss 2003 Step by Step seemed to be wanting you to read the whole book as a lesson before you started to build your databse and I didn't have time for that. The CD wasn't helpful either. Access for Dummies on the other hand, enabled you to pick up the book and start building your databse straight away. Microsoft® Office Access 2003 Step by Step (Step by Step (Microsoft))

What an easy to follow book.
This book really shows how easy Microsoft Access 2003 can be to use. It doesn't go into great detail about some of the more complex aspects of Access, but then it's not meant too. What it does do is give you a solid, well structured introduction to this brilliant piece of software and leaves you feeling confident about using Access in the future. This won't be the last Step by Step book I purchase.

In some form or other, I have been running into relational databases for several years now. I have been interested in, but baffled by them, until now. Despite the previous not-so-positive review, I found this book very helpful for my level of interest and understanding. The book lives up to its name, giving step-by-step instructions on how to build and work with Access databases. Each subsequent step builds on the previous one, providing a logical foundation for building understanding. If you are new to relational databases, or want to brush up on some rusty skills, I would highly recommend this book.

I knew very little about MS Access 2003 but I had to learn it for work. You could not ask for a better book to explain Access to beginners. Now I need to find a more advanced book to teach me techniques on using query and modules to edit text data that I import into Access. But this book will definitely help anyone wanting learn Access 20003 for the first time.

This book is not very concise and I suspect this to be because it's geared toward the beginner and it wants you to play with the demos that's on the included CD to see how everything all comes together. In other words, "Trial by Fire" training method is how you learn.

It does, however, give you enough input to get you into trouble and have an adequate to professional looking database. There is one thing that it doesn't do. It doesn't STRESS, enough, the importance of Outling your ideas for the way you want your database design to look, feel, and be like. That is the most important factor you are going to have to consider, first.

Plagiarizing sample databases almost, always, proves to be a "must do" in order to get your database to work like the Pro's. Maybe, plagiarizing isn't the best word to use. Oh well, too late. Have fun!

I received this product along with Access 2003 for Dummies 9 in 1, and was not only dissapointed in how long it took to receive the items, but this item came incomplete. It was suppose to have a CD rom for training purposes with the book, but did not come with it. I contacted the vendor by email and a few days later received an Email from Amazon telling me they were going to refund me my full purchase price. Well Amazon did exactly that. Nice job Amazon. You are true to your satisfaction guaranteed. Unfortunately; I really needed the CD more than a refund. But thank you Amazon. Not happy with this vendor!
