I'll be honest: this really is my favorite part of the LP, when everyone campaigns to be "elected" by the RNG. Randomly-picked overseer was such a great aggravating idea.

5th Galena 243 The museum continues to proceed according to plan. Pedestals, statues, and memorials are placed in the room. 12th Galena 243 In the distance, a human caravan approaches. I order the military to patrol near the fortress gates, in case another ambush lurks. We can never be too careful. 16th Galena 243 The human caravan arrives in the depot, as the sounds of another birthday party echo from inside of the fortress. There are no signs of any ambushes. I order all idle dwarves to bring trade crafts to the depot. The humans appear to have brought plenty of iron with them to trade, and I would like for us to buy as much of it from them as we possibly can. Even their iron crafts shall be bought and melted down as scrap metal. 18th Galena 243 After bringing a bin full of stone crafts to the depot, the former overseer JimmytheD heads towards the bone pile instead of back to the craft stockpiles. She appears to be in one of those strange moods that have been known to occasionally possess a dwarf, so I do not attempt to stop her. 24th Galena 243 I visit the museum again. Work is proceeding well. A set of statues of the founders of Bronzestabbed decorates the center of the room, and a pedestal on the far side of the room displays one of our recent artifacts. But there is still so much more to do! The second half of the year should allow for plenty of time to finish things, though. For now, I simply order the walls of the museum to be smoothed. 28th Galena 243 I am reviewing plans to expand the museum when Leperfish visits my office. I look up. "Yes?" I ask. "Bad news, Jazzimus," says Leperfish glumly. "I'm afraid you didn't see to it that one of the queen's mandates was met." "I? -- uh -- oh. Really?" "I'm afraid so." "When did this mandate come?" "It was left on your desk a couple of months ago." I look around. My desk is a mess of papers involving various half-finished projects. "So... what does that mean?" I ask. "For one thing, Ark, whom the queen had requested to produce ballista artillery, will be receiving a couple of hammerstrikes from Vox Nihili." "Oh, poo poo. That's, uh, a shame. What else?" "Well, it seems that the entire reason you were selected for the overseership in the first place was because you were trusted to take care of the queen's demands. I'm afraid that Her Highness has requested that you not be allowed to finish your term as overseer." "Seriously? But... but I had plans. Some of them are half-finished, and some of them I haven't even..." "I'm sorry," he interrupts. "Queen's orders. The queen expected her mandates to come first, and you didn't get it done." I scoot my chair away from my desk and stand to my feet. "Well, alright then, gently caress it. I'm going fishing," I say. I don't even bother asking who the next overseer will be. The Overseer Jazzimus's reign has ended. And so begins our traditional election by merit, valor, and most of all luck. We still haven't found out who keeps adding Munki's name to the mix every time.

Call for Overseers Yep it's that time. Time to pick. An overseer. This time guys I really want you to think carefully before you sign up. For one thing Bad Munki is desperate, although his desperation is hilarious. But more importantly: this is a really huge goddamn job. You're going to need several hours pretty much every night if you want to get reasonable updates done. There's something like 250+ dwarves in the fortress, with more arriving regularly. There's a lot of micro to do and you'll also need to take a ton of screenshots, crop/edit them, and also work to create a compelling narrative. If you're up to the task, please fill out the form, here. You can check on the list of applicants here. As usual, as an overseer I ask that you produce an update for the thread about once every 48 hours (or less). You'll need to pace yourself so that you can finish within two or three weeks ideally - but the most important part is the regular updates. If you go 72 hours the thread gets antsy. If that happens twice, people will start calling for your head. So you really need to have plenty of free time for the next two or three weeks to do this! I will select the overseer on Saturday morning my time, which is probably like 25 or 26 hours from now.

I am not desperate, I am destined. Go ahead, sign up, it won't help any of you. The number 1 is the mark of (Number one because the guy that signed up before me apparently said "no" to that all-important question. If he's allowed in, then all that up there but #2.)

It is tempting to sign up just to thin Bad Munki's chances even further, but i just don't have the motivation these days to actually play a turn.

My one shining moment, the open door to my own horrible AV! Either way, if selected I swear that I will Oversee the poo poo out of this fort.

Is it bad munki's lucky day? (1d6=2) Sorry Bad Munki: I rolled a 2. LeJackal, congratulations! You are our next Overseer. Please send me a PM or (better) email me at my user name at gmail.com as soon as possible. Sorry for the delay: my chameleon, Mr. Chameleon, is having a medical crisis and I spent a lot of yesterday afternoon and all morning today trying to manage it. I'll get the save up shortly.

Oh, this was a good time to come back to the thread... and may I say, it is glorious to finally have a strange mood (not to mention still being alive, against all expectation!), but it is so much more glorious to see the ☼sweet, sweet nectary tears☼ running down Bad Munki's face as he fails to set the world on fire once more. I appreciate all the jokes, but please don't put together a lynch mob just because the fickle RNG selected me to be Overseer. I've been throwing my hat in every time, and I didn't sign up just to spite you guys or him. This will be my first ever Let's Play! and my first Succession Fort, so I already have a lot of pressure going on as it is. While I can't promise you that I will be as good or entertaining as Bad Munki, I can promise to do my damnedest to Oversee in the traditions of this thread. I am already in communication with Leperflesh and have the save in hand. I'm spending the day just trying to figure out how in the hell this place is designed (not well) and what needs to be done (a lot). As it turns out, a rotating cast of Overseers makes for a very weird layout. I am also sorting through dwarves to figure out just where to put all these guys, and its pretty daunting. I am forming some ideas about how to handle my turn, but being the populist I would like to ask- what can I do to help make my year fun for this thread?
