George Jones & The Jones Boys - Radio Jamboree 1963

BY POPULAR DEMAND!!!! Allright, let me just say it.....THIS IS KILLER! This is honky tonk George in full stride.....better yet, this is honky tonk benzedrine flat-top George in full stride. This is not your momma's George Jones people, this is your on'ry grandaddy's George Jones. Live in the studio on the radio sometime in 1963. The sound is about the best you could ask for. I mean it's killer. If you crave sweet honky tonk sounds well friend this is for you, I'm tellin' ya....it's killer.

  8. Switching it over to AM
    Searching for a truer sound
    Can't recall the call letters
    Steel guitar and settle down
Catching an all-night station somewhere in Louisiana
It sounds like 1963, but for now it sounds like heaven

  9. thanks guys. this really is some killer stuff. surprised it's never been released before....but I guess if it don't have "He stopped loving her today" on it, they don't think it will sell.

  11. I just wanted to step up and pat myself on the back for the artwork here. I posted this set on Dimeadozen back in 2007. They promptly BANNED it because they couldn't believe it was an unofficial recording and I didn't have any details about it. They eventually lifted the ban and it got out there.

I got the recording from a fellow named Mike in Ohio who was kind enough to send it to me after posting a few comments about George Jones on the Stevehoffman forum. He got a reel to reel copy in the 1980's from an ad in the back of Goldmine Magazine. I like doing "faux" artwork for CDR's so I formalized it with the pic from the cover of Golden Hits Volume 2 on UA.

I should also say that I'm not sure this was recorded in 1963... I thought so because of one of his introductions, but...

And I don't know if this was specifically recorded for distribution to country radio stations either. It may have been laid down for a faux live album after the sessions at Dancetown USA didn't meet expectations.

In any event, it is a treasure.

    Best,

    Guy
