Weight Weenies

Was looking around for a while for a frameset to start a new sturdy, do-it-all bike, that I might use for anything I don't want to use the brand new Wilier for. Namely some local crit races, some light gravel races, some gravel/touring, and anytime I nee to fly the bike somewhere.

Finally found a Lynskey Helix Pro disc that fitted the spec list that is on the mail at the moment, I am now working on the rest of the build, and it looks like it's gonna be very complicated to go close to 7kg (without pedals) without using boutique components (and that's not the point here, I'm trying to keep the budget fairly low), I still have 400g to go...

Happy to have your first thoughts on the below choice of components and potential improvements. The only things that are already here are: Wheels (don't think there's much to gain there), Campy-H11 levers and calipers (very heavy, I know...) and Hollowgram crankset.

Oooofff. Those shifters/calipers. You can save 200g w a darimo bar and seatpost transplant but sub 7 looks hard.

I've got a fairly similiar build going, Lynskey Helix Pro Disc with Sram HRD 11 spd and Pacenti/Hope wheels. I've got to 8.2/8.2kg (from a starting weight of 9.2kg) without breaking the bank. I won't derail your thread and post a picture, but i've got a build thread here if you're interested in taking a look.

J&L make some incredibly cheap and light TA's that replace the stock Lynskey ones, that'd be a good place to cut weight, they're only 20£ish on eBay. I think you could also add an extraltie expander and a lightweight (mt zoom/tune) seat clamp to the above, not very expensive but cut quite a bit off the stock components

Thanks, those are some good advices indeed, tough to save 400g this way, but still. Received it today and seatpost clamp is about 21g so, no more than 10/15g to save there...

Received the frame today, at 1815g with seatpost-clamp it is rather a good surprise (was expecting 1850 without the clamp), but still pretty heavy. It's a beautiful frame, a bit too many decals for my taste, I might remove the ones from the top tube at some point though...

Nice project. I like the light-but-functional ethos. Interesting to see how it develops and hear how the Lynskey rides.

Finished the build couple weeks ago, and it's a really amazing bike. The ride is suprisingly (first Ti bike for me) both very dynamic and quite supple, absolutely love it.

Had to make some changes on two main components though:
- Dale Hollowgram crankset wasn't a perfect fit (too wide Q-factor, shifting issues to big ring) so I swapped it for a FSA K-Force light, so far so good, and only 8 grams heavier at 598 chainrings included, quite happy about that (https://imgur.com/EOSnhDH.jpg).
- Haven't received the Lupina yet, and got to try a SQlab saddle instead for couple weeks. It's heavy, yes, but I absolutely love the comfort. Now that I know I love it, I might switch for a carbon version at 147g (mine is currently a metal rails one, at a heavy 211g)

Here is the bike in its gravel/CX version, with 35mm schwables G-one all-round on their 650B version (barely fits on the rear wheel, but works):



Here is the same configuration with added cargo-rack (Old-Man-Mountain) to carry about 11kg of equipement/supplies for a 3 days autonomous trip accros the Catskills (I'm a light packer, but we were two and I carried most of the weight...)



And finally in it's current WW version (still has the 11-27 cassette, so not really quite a climber) at 7.65kg on the scale with pedals at the moment (weighting on a superlight set of wheels and a Berk lupina that should bring us close to 7.2 or 7.1 depending on which tire configuration I end up choosing). Planning on making it my potential crit ride with deeper rims depending on how I feel on the first few ones on it
