Yankees express interest in three retired All-Stars

• Derrek Lee hasn%27t played in the majors since 2011
• Chipper Jones said he isn%27t interested in returning
• Juan Rivera is the top in-house candidate to replace Mark Teixeira at first base

In desperate need of power, the New York Yankees are trying to lure Chipper Jones, Derrek Lee and Scott Rolen out of retirement.

"He'd be perfect," Yankees general manager Cashman said of Jones in Tampa. "I'd take Larry in a heartbeat. I think everybody would."

Jones, 40, who played 19 seasons with the Atlanta Braves, said he isn't interested in returning and tweeted: "Enough with the rumors! While I am flattered about the speculation of being enticed out of retirement, I'm happy with life as a bad golfer!"

Then there wasRolen. "If the numbers were right playing wise and money wise, he could be interested in certain things," said Cashman.

Rolen, 37, retired after the 2012 season after 17 major league seasons.

And not to be left out, Cashman also said he contacted Lee."I made a call. I liked him as a player."

The chances of Lee returning is the most realistic of the three options.

"Nothing ventured, nothing gained," Cashman said.

Cashman is attempting to fill the void left by injuries to third basemen Alex Rodriguez and first baseman Mark Teixeira.

A-Rod isn't expected to return until at least August following hip surgery. Teixeira strained a tendon in his right wrist and is expected to miss 8-10 weeks. He injured his wrist swinging a weighted bat before Team USA's first exhibition game. Doctors say surgery is not needed. The Yankees are also without center fielder Curtis Granderson, who suffered a broken arm.

The Yankees led the majors with 245 home runs in 2012, something that will be difficult to duplicate with the injuries and free agent departures.

Lee, 37, hasn't played in the majors since 2011. However, he could be an upgrade to their current options and come relatively cheap.

Lee is a 15-year veteran who won the National League batting title in 2005 hitting .335 and slugged 331 career home runs. In 2011, he combined to hit 19 home runs and batted .267 with the Baltimore Orioles and Pittsburgh Pirates.

Juan Rivera is the top in-house candidate to replace Teixeira at first base. He played the position on Sunday.
