My EFI project
Bought my 930 a year and a half ago. 87 carmine red 50,000 miles. Car had sat for a while, but had a decent history and was well cared for. It had so cool ad ons (mostly cosmetic). Fikse wheels, interior bits, B6 intercooler, 1 bar spring.
After a couple weeks of driving it was apparent the turbo seals were shot, so I called UMW and swapped on a k27-7200. As more time went by, I noticed I was burning about 1qt of oil every 800 miles (smoke only on decel), and the 3rg gear grind started getting to me. I just pulled the engine with plan of having the trans repaired, replacing valve stem seals, adjust valves, and EFI/DIS. I'm using VEMS for my ECU, carrera manifold with rotated TB (to use 930 IC) 65 lb/hr Siemens injectors, LS2 coil near plug, clewett 60-2 crank pully, AEM boost solenoid w/ .5bar WG spring and other misc. sensors/electronics. I'm curious if turbokraft has the only carrera to 930 injector blocks out there. I'm not tearing into the engine, so I will not be porting my heads, or swapping cams. I'm aiming for a good street driver with good lowish end grunt (no need to rev past 5500 RPM's). Anyone have any suggestions or comments? |

Your injectors might be a bit too large for your relatively stock build which may impact idle and low load control/tuning some. Looks like a nice mix of features on the ECU at a relatively low cost. I would highly recommend you have a local tuner that has experience with and can help you with that specific system.
What about the status of your valve guides if you are having significant oil consumption issues?

I mis-stated my injector spec's, these are the ones I have:

strange, he actually made a joke about installing a carrera manifold on stock 930 heads. Those look like they'd need to be welded onto to the bottom half of the manifold. I'm looking for something more like these, it looks like they are the only manufacturer though. I just wanted to do a little comparative shopping.

I put a 3.2 intake on a 2.7 motor all I had to do is a little port matching with a dremel tool and I am pleased with the outcome you say you have a manifold did you get the fuel rails that go with it? Use the phenolic spacers to help with the blending they are stock and pelican sells them for right around 9 bucks a piece I think put a 3.2 intake gasket on top of the spacer and a 930 spacer on the bottom trim to fit.

You will need some shorter studs I went and got threaded rod from the hardware store and cut my own then put the phenolic spacer on the head and mark the places where the head is smaller than the spacer then put a towel or something in the port to stop grindings from getting into the motor and keep a vac handy and I used a dremel to blend and shape the intake port to the spacer particuarly around the injector port so you get a good pattern and then I trimmed the in my case 2.7 intake gasket to fit properly and not block the port. I think it worked pretty good for the time being.

Didnt take off that much material and was real careful to not get any into the cylinder really only blended rather than ported. I think my induction setup supports way more flow than my motor can ever use.

Long time no talk!!!! glad to see your making the most of you CT winter! I hope Paul k is lending you a hand and a beer! its cold enough for me up there in the summer. haha you could probably epoxy the injector holes shut in your stock CIS injector blocks and taper them to match the carrera manifold. epoxy all around the outside of the blocks to reinforce them if you go that route...they crack fairly easy without.

on second thought, I may have a set of billet injector block blanks that don't have the injector openings bored in them yet, so techincally they're just spacers at the moment...I'll check in the morning.

Hey Pete, how's it going? I'm dropping the trans off to Gary Fairbanks tomorrow and am working with Marc Swanson from EFI express (the guy with the twin turbo V8 audi coupe). The VEMS unit has some really cool features out of the box, launch control, selectable maps (vallet mode), boost control, EGT, digital display, sd card for data log.
Let me know what you find and if you want to part with them. Are you doing your EFI project this year? |

I was going to, and I have the entire efi setup sitting in a box in my garage, but my yellow car dyno'd in at 396 at the hubs on .7 bar and is running so well right now I'm following the "if it ain't broke" route for the time being. I'll get back with you on the blocks today, should be back at the house early this afternoon.
