New year's double update devlog: what's done and what's not... yet


Happy New year anyone reading! Neron here with the very first long itch.io devlog. I wrote this for even two updates because I was too lazy too finish it in October  planning v3.2 to finish some v3.1's unfinished features (technically v3.1 also finishes v3.0 yeah that's how my updates work xD)

v3.1 overview:

I know I wasn't on NG with any games for the whole summer, that's because I wanted SafeCrack! v3.1 be a major update where all the features I wanted to do & more are there. So, yeah, what did I do in the working days? As I spent about half of holidays relaxing, count on your own how much time I spent on the development.  Anyway, it was worth the waiting (reminding you, that I released v3.1 after 5 months from v3.0)! With v3.1 being the biggest update in 2021, I can already see how most of future updates can be possible because of what I added in v3.1.

This is the list of what's started/done in v3.1:

  • 2 new puzzles added in the game. P9-10 show you a (maybe) revolutionary logic to click and move the objects with clicks of the mouse. This will totally make some puzzles more ๐š’๐š—๐š๐šŽ๐š›๐šŠ๐šŒ๐š๐š’๐šŸ๐šŽ. 
  • XP system. Woah I hope you like it although your data (even cloud variables!) doesn't save when you quit/reload the game. Gotta work on that for v3.3. And I really hope XP with save/load system won't ruin the game. 
  • I also succeded in making Testmode for ya :) I created algorythms of changing the input variables while testing the puzzles. Also, as Testmode is a thing now, there's a change in gameplay when you fail/restart the game. For updates v3.1, 3.2 you can test P1 and P3. 
  • A big change in gameplay was adding Submit Button. Submit your inputs when finished!
  • Additional menus. Some buttons have their own menu with its buttons/other objects! E. g. Achievements menu, Secret menu (nope I won't tell you how to find it), Clear Data menu
  • Kans + achievements. For each achievement I plan adding "books" similar to Manual with some random tutorial how to unlock some sneaky stuff. The first one leads you to the secret menu, where you can change your mouse skin (but in the future you will be able to do more stuff there). Kans is a talking robot, click him and wait for him to say the whole phrase.
  • Various system changes, bug fixes and additions! "Oops" achievement is changed, added mouse skin and effects, Tutorial Mode getting more fixes, music button that changed music in v3.0, now changes the pitch, Show variables button algorithm changed (you have an additional menu for that), also added characters' cutscenes! For bugs I fixed P6 and some layer bugs (they will always be a mess in every update). Also, as the game gets bigger some variables stopped showing their values, so in v3.1 there are special purple displayers that show values of P1, P2, P9.
  • Redone some assets, as usually :)
  • Oh, one more thing! Editions. One edition was Stranger Things for halloween. After that it was disabled. But, anyway, you can press z on PC to toggle the editions. In v3.2, there is a Christmas edition.

v3.2 overview:

I planned v3.2 to be much smaller than v3.1, and if you saw this devlog published before 2022 my plans came true! At one point, v3.2 seems to be a "small major" update. But I personally think it's bigger than v3.0, which makes it sexond biggest update in 2021 :0

This is the list of what started/done in v3.2:

  • Puzzle 11 (buggy). A bomb defuser. Move flashlight and scissors to cut the appropriate wire. Good luck :)
  • Christmas Puzzle Pack! A bunch of puzzles, with reward. Puzzle 1A is Puzzle 1 but with 4 buttons and 4-digit code. Puzzle 3A is Puzzle 3 but including scores, just like Puzzle 4 (Simon says) or Puzzle 7.
  • Various minor system changes. Size of mouse, settings of Puzzle 3, more usage of loading screen, etc. Some assets deleted or changed. Puzzle 6 bug fixed. Puzzle 8 algorithm updated, so it's not that easy now >:). Also now my game has smaller additional menus
  • New Show-variable system. It now shows you each variable as a sprite (but I gotta work on this one). 
  • Neron Editor. It helps me manage the game playing it on sites. It'll be helpful for me in v3.3...
  • Splitting settings menu. It'll be split for Options and Remote (aka Goto). Remote contains buttons that transfer you anywhere, or switch some mods (Testmode, Kans, Menu, etc.). As you know, I tried making it in v3.1, but failed...
  • Christmas Edition: Music changed and deco added.
  • 2 new achievements :D
v3.3 overview:

This update will bring you Save/Load system as a new feature, and a new puzzle as a gameplay feature. As well the newest funny edition will be. The rest is working with known features.  Hope it'll be small like I'm planning :)

This is what I hope will be covered in v3.3:
  • Save/Load system
  • New achievements
  • A new puzzle, as usually :)
  • Bug fixes, Manual & Tutorial Mode updated. New puzzles in Testmode? I might add a button in settings that toggles the editions. Also maybe an option that toggles different effects in the game.
