| 0 | Preamble & Premise | ||
| a. | We appreciate everyone's adherence to YYL's COVID-10 protocols, detailed below. We understand that they differ from the experience we are all used to. We also know that we are in a pandemic, and we all must do our part to keep all of our families as safe as practical.
| b. | YYL's 2021 COVID-19 protocols are designed to protect all stakeholder at YYL events and to provide reasonable comfort to all involved. They have been reviewed with the medical professionals who advise Yavneh Academy on COVID-19 in-school protocols, and who are familiar with the sport.
| c. | They are designed to minimize any participants from being in close proximity with others outside of their family for an extended period of time. Equipment has been reviewed based on its likely risk, with sharing of some of equipment permissible and other equipment restricted.
| d. | YYL’s COVID-19 protocols may change during the season, and this document may be updated further, and as new information is available.
| e. | Vaccination, antibodies, or prior COVID-19 positive test results do not impact these or any other requirements. | updated 24-May
| f. | YYL will seek parent volunteers to help facilitate the documented protocols, but it is the responsibility of each participating family to follow them as agreed during the YYL registration process.
| g. | Anyone found in violation of YYL's COVID-19 protocols is subject to removal from the league or game, at the discretion of YYL Administrators. No refunds will be provided in this case.
| ||||
| ||||
| 1 | Attendance | ||
| a. | YYL Families (players and others) are to stay home if they have tested positive for COVID-19, are showing COVID-19 symptoms, or if they have had a close contact with a person who has tested positive for or who has symptoms of COVID-19.
| b. | Any YYL Participant who is deemed to be in quarantine by their school or have been instructed by their school (or other organization) to not attend school on-premises due to COVID risk, must not attend YYL events.
| c. | Any YYL Participant who tests positive for COVID 19 is required to notify YYLCOVID@gmail.com. Notification is required even if the player has not attended recent YYL games/practices. We will then inform participating families of recent games as a precautionary measure. Parents of players who test positive are encouraged to communicate this to members of a shared carpool, or the families of anyone they know their child to have been in close contact with.
| d. | In the event of a reported positive case of COVID-19, YYL will attempt to work with the child's school health office, who will be relied on for contact tracing activities. YYL will not release names of individuals who have tested positive.
| e. | Social distancing of 6 feet minimum must be maintained whenever possible. Several cases within these protocols call for a wider berth for social distancing.
| ||||
| 2 | Spectators | ||
| a. | Each YYL family is strongly encouraged to limit the number of spectators that they bring to a player’s game. All observers must sit at a social distance of 10 feet from each other group of observers. Any families with spectator children who cannot sit with their parents, should be situated outside the area of play (not within 1st or 3rd base)
| b. | Spectators should not yell due to the reality of aerosolizing germs. Clapping is encouraged :)
| ||||
| 3 | Masks & Mask Removal
| a. | Masks are required for all non-playing individuals that are not past the 'fully' effective period (i.e. 2 weeks) of their 2nd vaccination (or first for J&J vaccine) who are in close proximity to others. Masks must cover the individual’s mouth and nose (both). Gaiters are permissible provided they are 2-layer (or folded) and cover both mouth and nose. CDC guidelines for masks can be found here https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/about-face-coverings.html. Defensive players on the field (including catcher), batters, and baserunners are NOT required to wear masks over their mouth and noses, but should wear them below their chin and raise them over their mouth and nose when they come off the field or at any point they congregate on or off the field (i.e. a huddle up). To be clear, players must wear masks when sitting/standing near other players. They do not require them when sitting with their family. | updated 24-May
| b. | Any masks that are replaced, need to be tossed in an available trash receptacle or taken off the field premises by their wearer.
| c. | Consumption of snacks and drinks, or removal of masks any purpose must happen in one's family area, with a target of 10 feet from others.
| d. | Distribution of snacks from a parent to players on a team is permitted provided that an individual parent distributes snacks to the players (and players do not reach into a common area to serve themselves).
| e. | All Players, Coaches and Umpire must sanitize their hands following consumption of snacks or beverages AND/OR any use of tissues or similar.
| ||||
| 4 | Players | ||
| a. | Players and Spectators arriving early to a field should wait in their cars until prior teams have vacated the fields.
| b. | Instructional and Junior Players (K-4th grade) will not sit in the ‘dugout’ with their team but rather in their family's area. Players without a spectator will be in the dugout or other area designated by the coach.
| c. | When on offense, Senior Players (5th-8th grade) will stay with their team in their dugout area (though not necessarily on the ‘bench’ as social distancing spacing permits), with the exception of fields that have enclosed dugouts (i.e. Ridge Ranch).
| d. | Catcher positioning for Junior and Senior Divisions: Standard catching position is acceptable. Catchers masks should be wiped down inside before a 'new' catcher uses it.
| ||||
| 5 | Equipment | ||
| a. | Each player must have his or own fielding glove/mitt and batting helmet (hockey or lacrosse helmets are permissible as they protect the face and ears - bicycle helmets are not permitted because they do not protect either), and batting gloves (which absolutely no one needs). Players are encouraged to bring their own bat or non-wearable sports equipment although sharing is permitted. In the event a league provided batting helmet must be used, the inside area (padding) must be wiped down with a sanitizing wipe after every use.
| b. | When a team comes off the field (before their team's at-bat), each player should sanitize their hands with a hand sanitizer. YYL will provide hand sanitizers to teams.
| c. | Catcher's face masks must be wiped down with a sanitizing wipe before they are shared. Shin and Chest protecting equipment can be shared and do not require wipe down.
| ||||
| 6 | Umpires/ Coaches | ||
| a. | Umpires will have ‘right of position’ over any non-pitching coaches. Coaches must maintain social distancing from umpires at all times, including when discussing rules or results.
| b. | (Senior Division) Home plate umpires shall position themselves either behind home plate or behind the pitcher depending upon field set-up, location of back stop, vaccination status, and ability to social distance. Field umpires shall position themselves in appropriate positions away from fielding players. | updated 24-May
| c. | Only YYL coaches are allowed to ‘coach a base’ or pitch in Junior and Instructional divisions (in the case of only a single coach being present at a Junior or Instructional session, another designated individual may pitch) or otherwise engage with any players on the field. Base Coaches will position themselves 6 ft away from fielders, base runners and umpires at all times.
| ||||
| 7 | Other | ||
| a. | Teams will not shake hands or ‘line-up’, after the games. Alternate shows off sportsmanship that meet the guidelines in this document is encouraged.
| b. | Teams are prohibited from gathering in close proximity for ‘hands-in’, coaches' instructions or other group communication unless they are fully masked, and even if masked, for less than 5 mins only. | updated 24-May
