Why This Matters
Wisconsinites deserve an effective, convenient and clean transportation system that connects everyone to the places they want to go.
By supporting a range of transportation options (like walking, biking and transit), better connectivity across communities, and more livable communities, we envision a healthier, happier Wisconsin for all who live here.
Week Without Driving: September 30 - October 6
Can you take the challenge next week to experience what life would be like without driving? Read More
" If you can drive or afford a car, you may not understand what it’s like to rely on walking, rolling, transit and asking for rides. But for nearly a third of people living in the United States – people with disabilities, young people, seniors and people who can’t afford cars or gas – this is our every day.
We created the Week Without Driving challenge so that those who have the option to drive can learn firsthand about the barriers and challenges that nondrivers face and work with nondrivers to create more accessible communities for all. "
Over the week of September 30 - October 6, consider the following:
- Every trip counts. Consider how you get around - not just for your daily commute but for everything during the week.
- Asking or paying for rides. If transit, biking or walking isn't an option, practice asking for a ride. How does this impact you and the person you ask for a ride? If you pay for rides, how does that add up?
- What options are available in your area? Who can (or can't) access things via transit, walking or biking? What is and isn't connected?
- It's ok to drive when you don't have other options, but consider how you would navigate that trip if you were a non-driver. What does this teach you about the transportation system?
