The Right Place re you looking for some

A

moments of beauty in your life? ... you’ve come to the

right place. Something intimate, magical, exciting, radiant? ... the right place. Lively, invigorating, sumptuous, wonderful? ... this is it. Each year as we prepare the

descriptions of the new season’s concerts, we try to find words that will evoke the feelings that you will experience when you hear the music. An impossible task - for the basic goal of the composers and singers is precisely to express that for which words are inadequate. Wasn’t it a wordsmith - German poet Heinrich Heine - who said “When words fail, music begins”? Luminous, scintillating, magnificent? ... yes, and so much more. All you have to do is to be there when it happens. So, give yourself a special gift ... put yourself in the right place to receive something indescribable ... reserve your place in the Orpheum or Chan, Ryerson or Shaughnessy Heights. And bring a friend or family member so you can talk about it afterwards (… if you can find the words!).

The Love that Moves the Universe Bach, Handel & Schafer Orpheum Theatre Vancouver Chamber Choir and Orchestra / Pacifica Singers Jon Washburn, Conductor One of the Vancouver Chamber Choir’s most acclaimed performances was the 2010 premiere of R. Murray Schafer’s radiant choral/orchestral work The Love that Moves the Universe, based on the final lines of Dante’s Paradiso. In answer to popular demand, we repeat that magical experience, and extend it by singing the equally luminous Jesu, meine Freude by Bach and Laudate pueri Dominum by Handel. Our Associate Choirs The growing Vancouver Chamber Choir family... The Vancouver Chamber Choir circle has been growing in recent years with the inclusion of the Pacifica Singers and the Vancouver Youth Choir as our Associate Choirs. The Pacifica Singers are a select ensemble conducted by Kevin Zakresky which sings with the Vancouver Chamber Choir each season (Christmas in the Orpheum, The Love that Moves the Universe) and also presents independent concerts in the fall and spring. The Vancouver Youth Choir is a newer group formed by conductor Carrie Tennant for young singers 14-23 years of age. They will be singing at Christmas in the Orpheum, A Dylan Thomas Christmas and A Charlie Brown Christmas as well as their own concerts throughout the year. We'll be giving you more information about both ensembles and their activities throughout the season. Be sure to give us your email address so we can keep you up to date!
