2023 SUMMER ART CAMPS

UVA provides year-round arts education opportunities for youth in the community through afterschool and Summer programming that inspires youth k-12. It is our goal through arts programming that we will inspire generations of dreamers, makers, designers and leaders!

UVA’s Summer Camps are a great opportunity for your young artist to explore all corners of their imagination, learn new skills, and have fun this summer. From clay and music to mixed media opportunities, printmaking, and more, these camps provide enriching arts education experiences that your young artist will love!

WEEK 5

MINI MUSICIANS: CLASSICAL MUSIC STORIES

DATES: July 25-28

TIME: 9am-12pm

INSTRUCTOR: Kim Eichman

AGE RANGE: 4-7

MAX # OF STUDENTS: 10

LOCATION: Gallery II

Students are invited to find out what familiar animals are represented by classical musical instruments in famous classical music stories. Through activities, singing, playing rhythm instruments, and telling the story of music with a play, Students will develop a deeper appreciation for music as they explore it in new ways.c

WEEK 6

MINIS’ BUG LOVE - SOLD OUT!

DATES: August 1-4

TIME: 9am-12pm

INSTRUCTOR: Rachael Brock

AGE RANGE: 4-7

MAX # OF STUDENTS: 8

LOCATION: Studio East

This camp is a junior naturalist’s dream! Students will enjoy mornings filled with crafts, experiments, and adventures in the wide and wonderful world of nature. This camp incorporates child-led art, giving participants the opportunity to create something different and uniquely their own. Campers will be able to touch, smell, see, and glean from Mother Nature’s bounty by engaging in a variety of activities, such as making their own moveable butterfly craft!

NOTE: Parents are welcome (and even encouraged!) to stay and enjoy the camp with their minis.

INTRO TO PHOTOGRAPHY

DATES: August 1-4

TIME: 1pm-4pm

INSTRUCTOR: Elena Nesbit

AGE RANGE: 8 and up

MAX # OF STUDENTS: 10

LOCATION: Imagination Station

Join us for an introduction to photography! Students will be guided through basic photography lessons as well as create mixed media projects that use photography produced while in the camp! By the end of the camp, young artists will learn how to use photography, collage, and paint to create unique and modern works of art!

Note: Students will need to bring their own devices that have a camera.

FLORAL FRENZY!

DATES: August 1-4

TIME: 1pm-4pm

INSTRUCTOR: Jayden Dukes

AGE RANGE: 8 and up

MAX # OF STUDENTS: 10

LOCATION: Studio East

This camp is all things floral! Compostable floral lanterns, using trash and pressed flowers, DIY nature stickers, window sun catchers, flower wands, shadow drawing, and the list goes on! Students will explore and harvest their own natural material to be made into art projects!

WEEK 7

BEGINNING SEWING - SOLD OUT!

DATES: August 8-11

TIME: 9am-12pm

INSTRUCTOR: Connie Hector

AGE RANGE: 8 and up

MAX # OF STUDENTS: 10

Continuing its collaboration with the Umpqua Valley Quilters’ Guild, UVA is excited to offer another summer of sewing instruction! Beginning students will learn the basics of machine sewing and explore how they can use simple stitches to create their own textile masterpieces.

YOUTH PET PORTRAITS!

DATES: Aug 8-11

TIME: 9-12pm

INSTRUCTOR: Alexa Parks

AGE RANGE: 8 and up

Does your young artist love animals? Do they have a special pet in their life? Now is their opportunity to do all things creative while paying tribute to pets! Join us for a week of pet portraits! Through various lessons and materials, students will learn different ways to draw their favorite animals.

YOUNG ADULT ABSTRACT PAINTINGS

DATES: August 8-11

TIME: 1pm-4pm

INSTRUCTOR: Alexa Parks

AGE RANGE: 12 and up

Creating unique and non-representational mixed media paintings, students will learn about abstract modes of making! In this mixed media camp, artists will dive into the world of abstract art! Exploring elements of texture, color, and shape, students will have fun and create artwork that can be and look anyway that you want!

INTERMEDIATE SEWING

DATES: August 15-18

TIME: 9am-12pm

INSTRUCTOR: Connie Hector

AGE RANGE: 10 and up
